Gaynes School is a mixed non-denominational secondary school for pupils aged 11-16. It is located in Upminster, Essex, and has capacity for about 900 pupils.

The school was founded in 1936. In 2016, it announced that it intends to convert to academy status and become a member of the Multi Academy Trust, operated by Life Education Trust. This will result in Gaynes entering a formal collaboration with Frances Bardsley Secondary Academy and Benhurst Primary Academy.

Values and vision

The school’s ethos and vision include: learning for all; global citizenship; sense of belonging; self-evaluation; and a positive environment.

Gaynes School promotes a lively and positive atmosphere where the whole community of  adults and students care about learning because they know the power it has to change lives. The school aims to cultivate a well-ordered and respectful environment and believes that examination success is important in providing young people with a range of positive choices when they leave.

Gaynes has an Applied Learning specialism, which demonstrates its ambition to provide clear links between the whole curriculum and the world beyond the school. Students, all staff, parents and governors care about their own learning and are encouraged to make the effort to learn new things.

Ofsted

“As a result of good, enthusiastic teaching and very positive relationships, students enjoy school and want to do well. Students make good progress over their time in the school.”

“Those who find learning difficult are helped to learn as well as possible. Students do well in their GCSE examinations, particularly in English and mathematics.”
