We are seeking to appoint a gifted Senior Teacher who will lead on Oxbridge and/or American University Admissions from September 2020.
Reporting to the Head of Sixth Form, this new role will further improve Brighton’s support for pupils aspiring to the world’s best universities on either side of the Atlantic, working alongside the existing Head of UCAS and other Deputy Heads of Sixth Form.
Whilst the ideal candidate might have prior experience and knowledge in both Oxbridge applications and American University Admissions, we would strongly encourage applications from teachers whose expertise might lie in one or other of these areas. A willingness to learn about the other area could be an advantage, but we would also consider appointing a teacher solely to lead on Oxbridge, or solely to lead on American Applications, provided that they could demonstrate the value that their appointment would bring to our pupils and Sixth Form team.
The successful candidate will be an outstanding communicator, both orally and in writing, with extensive experience of a particular segment of the university admissions process, and an understanding of how to guide pupils in making appropriate choices. He or she will have a good degree from a leading university and a proven track record of excellent teaching in their subject area. Strong interpersonal and organisational skills are crucial, as is a forensic attention to detail. As one of seven Senior Teachers at the college, the appointed candidate will have the ability to command the respect of colleagues and provide support and guidance to less experienced members of the Common Room. The role will require a lot of one-to-one work with sixth form pupils, and an inherent ability to connect with pupils of that age group, and secure their confidence in the advice provided, is critical.
Applications are welcomed from teachers with backgrounds in any subject currently taught at the College, and it is expected that they will teach around two-thirds of a full timetable.
