Job overview

Deputy Responsibilities

Do you inspire young people to achieve beyond expectation?

For motivational teachers wishing to share their expertise as innovative curriculum leaders, who relish the challenge of helping students to enjoy learning again, this newly-created post offers a unique, exciting opportunity. You are invited to join a team spearheading this entrepreneurial model of delivering Alternative Provision, based in Hammersmith, West London, where growing numbers of students learn in a calm, purposeful environment that promotes a supportive ‘family’ ethos that enhances their progress and where students feel at home. This role carries full responsibility for the development and delivery of Literacy, so prior experience will be essential.

Celebrating a decade of success in meeting the needs of students at risk of exclusion, the school focuses on supportive, consistent and academically rigorous learning, coupled with high expectations. As the school expands beyond its current Y9-Y11 remit to cover Years 7-11, a new Senior Teacher is sought to work with the Head to manage the broadening and development of the curriculum (both for GCSE and vocational subjects), and promote and share Westside’s expertise beyond our academic community.

Located in a quiet cul-de-sac in Hammersmith, the modern light building is deceptively spacious with sports hall, art studio, cafe and vocational learning rooms arranged over three floors; previous successes have strengthened Westside’s reputation for getting young people back on track in education with academic achievements.

Advantages include:

  • Aspirational and dedicated ethos in students, teachers and Trustees
  • School community where change is underway and keen to progress
  • Beneficial learning environment, scope develop the curriculum and promote CPD
  • Future leadership potential to share best practice across a MAT structure

Closing date: 9am Monday 23rd May
Interviews: Thursday 26th May 2016

Westside School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
