South Bank Engineering UTC is seeking to appoint a senior technical support officer who will be responsible for leading the technical support of high quality engineering, science and employer projects at the UTC. Opened in September 2016, the school specialises in engineering and STEM for 14-19 year olds, offering a non-traditional education built on high academic standards, learning in a technical context, close links to employer and university partners and a professional environment making use of outstanding facilities and resources.

As a UTC, we offer GCSEs and A levels, and the opportunity for our students to learn valuable technical and employability skills. Our education plan ensures our students are on track to make outstanding progress, reach high levels of academic attainment and develop the skills essential for career success. London South Bank University is our sponsor and we are co-sponsored by Skanska UK, King's College and Guys and St Thomas' NHS Trusts who support our work closely in offering real-life employer challenge projects, developing authentic, contextualised learning. 

We will move into state of the art purpose-built new buildings in September 2017 and have access to outstanding specialist equipment and facilities including advanced computing, 3D print and robotics. Our students are fully supported through high-quality, personalised pastoral care.

This role is for a technician able to deliver high quality support for the technical curriculum within a strong team and will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to provide effective management of a technical team as well as support highly motivated, technically-minded young people.

The successful candidate will be part of a close-knit, small team initially and will be required to be highly adaptable and flexible.  Alongside this, the UTC offers first class career development opportunities, excellent CPD, wonderful students, an innovative education vision, great links to industry and higher education and leading-edge facilities. About South Bank University Sixth Form

Overview 

South Bank UTC is a school based in Brixton, South London with a focus on technical and practical education specialising in Engineering and Health. The school’s curriculum is created with industry partners including London South Bank University, Skanska, Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and Kings College NHS Foundation Trust to ensure students get real world experience and skills to prepare them for future employment. The UTC offers entry into Year 10 and Year 12 for those with a passion for engineering or health and the drive to receive a specialist education alongside traditional GCSEs, A-levels or BTECs. 

Specialist Curriculum

Engineering is about more than just building things: it is creative, practical and aims to make the world a better place for future generations. The engineering curriculum has been designed to ensure students are ready for the future. Alongside traditional GCSEs or A-Levels, students are given a unique opportunity to excel with hands on practical engineering skills. South Bank UTC facilitates the development of personal skills as well as academic and technical knowledge, with projects and trips designed to ensure our students are highly employable.

Healthcare is bigger than you think. There are 350 different NHS careers, ranging from Doctors, Nurses and Midwives to Physios, Educators, Engineers and Technicians, not to mention the many other jobs in the wider health and health tech sectors. Our Health curriculum is designed to set students up with the skills and knowledge needed to pursue their dream career and make a real difference to the world. Students study science-based A Levels or a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care, giving them a range of knowledge and skills that can be used in work or further study.

Facilities 

South Bank UTC is STEM focused, meaning students have the chance to learn scientific theory alongside practical and hands on work in advanced labs and engineering and  health-specific teaching suites.

Students have access to cutting-edge computing and information technologies to facilitate the study of emerging digital technologies, allowing them to learn, think, design and analyse in a digital environment. 

The UTC has world-class facilities for engineering and science, including incredible engineering workshops, digital engineering facilities, brand new science labs and access to virtual reality, 3-D printing, robotics and 360 degree video.

It has extensive links with employers and world leading facilities, which allow UTC students to get ahead with unique opportunities to work with University lecturers and students. 

London South Bank University has trained half of all Nurses in London. South Bank UTC students will have the opportunity to be interviewed and offered places in Year 12 to oversubscribed health degree courses at the University. This unique opportunity puts UTC students ahead of others.
