Job overview

We are looking for Sessional Teachers to deliver at A-level to work with small groups of up to 5 students, who require additional support as a result of the disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.


You will be part of and supported by staff within the Academic Studies team based at The Joseph Wright Centre. This is a truly rewarding role, working with students and directly seeing the impact of your work and helping them to overcome barriers to learning in order to achieve their full potential.


This role has the benefit of being very flexible and may be accommodated around other commitments, additionally there may be opportunities to complete this role remotely and support students via Microsoft Teams.


You will be a dedicated and motivated professional, providing outstanding teaching and learning for our 16-19 cohort. You will be qualified up to at least Level 2 in English and or Maths, a relevant degree qualification (or equivalent) would be desirable.  In addition, you will hold a recognised Level 5/6 teaching qualification (PGCE/CertEd) or working towards.


You will be an enthusiastic, flexible and innovative teacher with experience of delivering to GCSE and/or A-level cohorts. Candidates with experiences of private tutoring and examiner roles are desirable.  Excellent administration and interpersonal skills together with a commitment to working effectively as part of a team are also essential in this role.

Derby College is a large general further education college with four sites in or near the city of Derby. It supports around 26,000 learners, who choose from more than 1,000 full-time and part-time apprenticeship, A-level, BTEC and NVQ courses.   

Derby College was established as a single institution in 2002 by merging three further education colleges: Mackworth Tertiary College, Wilmorton Tertiary College and Broomfield Agricultural College. A merger between South East Derbyshire College and Derby College was approved in 2010. Heavy investment has been made by the college in its teaching and learning facilities, from the fully equipped teaching kitchens at the Roundhouse campus to the high-tech science labs at the Joseph Wright Centre and the Equestrian Centre at the Broomfield Hall campus.
