Support Sixth Form Students in Their Academic Journey

Are you passionate about mentoring and supporting Sixth Form students to achieve their full potential? St Christopher School is seeking a Sixth Form Learning Support Mentor to help students develop independent study skills, time management, and revision strategies.

This role is ideal for someone with experience in education, mentoring, or student support, who is keen to make a meaningful impact in a progressive and supportive school environment.

About the Role

As our Sixth Form Learning Support Mentor, you will:

  • Manage the Sixth Form Learning Centre, ensuring it is an effective and supportive study environment.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group mentoring, helping students develop time management, study techniques, and revision skills.
  • Support students with private study arrangements, ensuring a structured and productive learning space.
  • Assist students with university and apprenticeship applications, including UCAS support, research skills, and career guidance.
  • Work closely with subject teachers, identifying independent study skills needed and how to support students effectively.
  • Monitor student progress and engagement, providing targeted intervention when necessary.
  • Maintain and update study resources, learning tools, and display boards to promote academic development.
  • Promote self-esteem, independence, and resilience, encouraging students to take ownership of their learning.
  • Support students with special educational needs (SEN), ensuring they have access to appropriate learning strategies.
  • Use data tracking to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and target setting.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds GCSEs (Grade C/4 or above) in English and Maths (or equivalent).
  • Has experience working with young people in an educational or mentoring role.
  • Understands Sixth Form learning requirements, including study skills, independent learning, and academic progression.
  • Is confident in supporting students with university and apprenticeship applications.
  • Has excellent IT skills, including experience with research tools, UCAS, and online learning platforms.
  • Possesses strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build positive relationships.
  • Is highly organised and proactive, with the ability to monitor student progress and provide tailored support.
  • Has a student-centred approach, supporting individual learning needs and aspirations.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.
