Sixth Form Mentor (Physics) (Part time)

Salary: UCL Academy Scale S04 PS 7, (£24,279) pro rata to £16,874.07 (at 0.8  FTE term time only)

Contract Type: Part time (4 days per week) and term time only. Fixed until 31 August 2022 with the possibility of extension.

About the Department

Science teachers at UCL Academy plan and teach a curriculum which is both inspiring and engaging and includes elements of cutting edge research. We have 6 hi-tech science labs, 2 open learning spaces and a lecture theatre. Our unique links with University College London, gives us access to their amazing laboratories with cutting edge equipment. This way, we aim to enrich our students with practical and real-life context self-directed activities.

The iGEM competition, Global Experiment, CREST awards, Greenpower Electric Car' competition and Salter's chemistry festivals are encouraged, to extend the students beyond the curriculum and give them a chance to experience ‘genuine’ science. We have very strong links to the Welcome Trust, The Crick Institute and the Queen Square Brain Bank. The extracurricular opportunities we provide are second to none. What we Want

 Undertake reading age assessments of sixth form students as required. Provide support predominantly to sixth form students in raising standards of Physics;

 Provide a one-to-one mentoring relationship to enable the student to meet targets;

 Communicate with parents/carers and staff regarding students’ work and progress.
