Job Title: Ski Coordinator and Coach

Job Purpose: To coach, promote and develop skiing at Surbiton High School.

 

Reporting Line: Head of Skiing

Start Date: ASAP

Tenure: Permanent, full-time hours, part-time weeks

Monday to Friday

37.5 hours per week, with variable daily hours which will include evenings and weekends

38 weeks of the year

Salary:  Competitive

Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide high quality, safe, enjoyable ski lessons and coaching sessions
  • To support the Head of Skiing in further developing participation and competition in skiing through offering taster sessions, internal and external competitions and ski camps on both dry slope and snow
  • To ensure there is a robust training programme, throughout the full academic year, for pupils of all ages and abilities, to improve performance, across all three schools
  • To support the Head of Skiing with the organisation of time trials and ensure there are clear and transparent selection policies for all competitions
  • To accompany and supervise skiers to and from training and on trips, where necessary
  • Assist the Head of Skiing to create opportunities for identifying talent and attract high performers to SHS as potential ski scholars
  • To carry out all administrative tasks for the Department, including reporting on, and monitoring specific groups, trip and competition weekends organisation, both in the UK and abroad
  • To be responsible for the publication and communication of the Ski Club’s successes and achievements, including information for assemblies, website, newsletter and local press
  • To maintain and monitor the Ski Club’s use of social media In collaboration with the Head of Skiing, including the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts
  • To support in the development of links with local ski clubs e.g. Aldershot, Sandown, various snow clubs
  • To provide general administrative support as required and agreed with the Head of Skiing
  • To carry out any such duties as may be reasonably requested

 

 

Person Specification

The successful candidate will be likely to fit the following profile:

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Hold the relevant qualifications (BASI, UKSS, UKCP, CSCF)
  • At least BASI Level 2 with a relevant coaching qualification, or equivalent.
  • Outdoor First Aid would be beneficial
  • Considerable experience ski coaching and racing
  • A proven track record of demonstrable training and race success with young people
  • Experience of collaborating with colleagues

 

Skills & Personal Qualities

  • Have a passion for skiing both recreationally and competitively
  • Be able and prepared to coach students of all abilities
  • Ability to make training fun and beneficial
  • Competent IT Skills and knowledge of Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Confident with using the video camera and able to export and prepare for video analysis
  • Proven ability to develop effective professional relationships with students, colleagues and parents
  • Understand that different athletes have different learning patterns and be able to build on an athlete’s strengths to motivate each individual to develop skill and confidence
  • Ability to teach sound racing technique
  • Commitment to the personal development of students and to the School’s ethos
  • Personal warmth to gain the confidence of pupils, staff and parents
  • Positive rapport with pupils
  • High standards of personal presence and presentation and attention to detail
