Job overview

An opportunity exists for an enthusiastic Spanish speaker who wishes to support pupils to nurture their conversational skills. The Spanish Foreign Language Assistant will be in charge of preparing students for the oral component of their exam and improve their fluency, vocabulary as well as cultural knowledge. They will work with pupils studying GCSE, AS and A Level Spanish. The Spanish Assistant works with reduced numbers of students (usually groups of one, two or three). Most typically, GCSE students in Year 10 and Year 11 will see the Spanish Assistant in slots of five or ten minutes. 

Whilst committed to supporting and enthusing students, he/she must set high standards and will work closely with the Modern Foreign Languages Department's teachers to prepare relevant and stimulating materials for his/her lessons and is encouraged, where appropriate, to set students homework. This is an important role in so much as oral examinations at GCSE and A2 level have clear and unique demands. 

The successful candidate will have a strong and secure subject knowledge of Spanish culture and language, with the ability to speak Spanish fluently. 

Chigwell School is located in the picturesque village of Chigwell just 10 miles from central London and on the Central Line. Close to the edge of Epping Forest, we enjoy over 100 acres of beautiful grounds. As well as being an academic school, it has a growing reputation, locally and nationally, for its sport, music, art and drama. We endeavour to provide an all round education to girls and boys from the ages of four to eighteen years. Pupils are enthusiastic, co-operative and able, and colleagues get on well together. There is a well-developed sense of community.

We are predominantly a day school but there are some 25 Sixth Form boarders who are mainly from overseas; from sixteen or so different countries. They add a real international flavour to our community. 

This is a part time position working 26 hours per week during term time only. The School offers a competitive salary and benefits package.

Chigwell School is an independent, mixed, Church of England all-through day and boarding school for four to 19-year-olds,  located in Chigwell, Essex. The school has just over 1060 pupils.

The school can trace its history back to 1629, when it was founded originally as a boys’ school. It is run as an educational charity, overseen by a board of governors who are also trustees of that charity.
