Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a Spanish Language Assistant to join a large, friendly and experienced department with a track record of very strong examination results.

The successful candidate will have high level speaking Spanish, with very good English and a good knowledge of Hispanic culture and current affairs.

You will work closely with Teachers of Spanish, the Head of Spanish and the Head of Languages.

Your main role will be conducting small-group Spanish conversation sessions with pupils, mainly, but not exclusively, from years 10 to 13.

Your aim will be to help to ‘bring the language to life’ for pupils, foster enthusiasm for the language and improve pupils’ fluency and confidence.

Reporting to the Head of Spanish and Head of Languages, you will support pupils in developing their Spanish speaking skills. Much of your work will be helping our Sixth Formers studying A-Level Spanish to improve their fluency, pronunciation and cultural knowledge through 1:1 or 1:2 conversation practice.

You will also have small-group conversation practice with other pupils throughout the school, as well as helping to run our Spanish Native Speakers Club and, when appropriate, helping to develop authentic materials for use in conversation sessions and more widely by the department.

The post will offer flexible hours of circa 15 hours per week during term time only and would be ideal for someone considering a future career in teaching. The salary is £25-30 per hour, depending on experience.

Should you have any questions before applying for the post, please do contact Head of Languages, Mr Oli Williams, on owilliams@ibstockplaceschool.co.uk

This is a fixed-term, part-time (circa 15 hours per week) contract, commencing 31 August 2023 until 30 June 2024, with a six month probationary period.

Further information on the role is set out in the Job Description.
