Main Purpose of the Role
The Spanish Teacher will plan, teach, and assess Spanish lessons to students across various age ranges and ability levels, promoting engaging and interactive learning experiences that aligns with the school’s inclusive, non-selective ethos and supports the overall vision and values of Broadoaks British School. This role also requires the knowledge and experience of preparing students for IGCSE Spanish assessments.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Plan and deliver engaging Spanish lessons for pupils of various ages and abilities
- Set and mark homework, assessments, and exams
- Monitor pupil progress and provide constructive feedback
- Develop and implement language schemes of work and curriculum plans
- Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to MFL faculty development
- Organise cultural events, trips, and activities to enhance language learning
- Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and resources
Safeguarding

- Work in line with the school's safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.
- Maintain an awareness of safeguarding issues and report any concerns to the designated safeguarding lead.
- Participate in safeguarding training and updates to ensure a robust understanding of child protection responsibilities.
- Promote the safety and well-being of all students in the school.
- Contribute to a culture of vigilance and a safe learning environment for all.
Assessment, Recording and Reporting
- Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use outcomes to adapt teaching accordingly.
- Provide quality marking and feedback and identify clear targets for future learning as appropriate.
- Carry out assessment cycles (e.g., collection of effort and attainment assessments, reports) as agreed by the school.
- Be familiar with the Code of Practice for identification and assessment of Special Educational Needs and keep appropriate records on Individual Education Plans for pupils.
Qualification and Experience
- Qualified Teacher Status/TRCN
- Bachelor's degree in Spanish Language, or related field
- Postgraduate teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, PGDE)
- Experience teaching Spanish in a British school or similar educational setting
- Strong knowledge of Spanish language, grammar, and literature
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teaching skills
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse student needs
