Join Portland Place an independent Secondary School – A Haven of Creativity

Portland Place School is a leading independent co-educational day school for children aged 10-16, located directly in the heart of the City of Westminster. It was founded with a particular purpose in mind: to be an alternative to the intense, large, examination focused independent day schools of which there are many in London.

Part of the Alpha Plus family of schools, Portland Place offers rigorous and tailored career professional development to meet the needs of staff progression, a diverse and experienced group of teachers who share their pedagogical practice and first class teaching & learning and pastoral care for students. With a recent change in Headship, Portland Place School is undergoing a transformation in our approach to learning.  Our aim is to provide a real-life education where children are adaptable, empathic and are prepared for the 21st Century job market.

The SEN department is a small, experienced team who have fostered a friendly working environment. With small class sizes, the SEN team have the advantage of knowing students well, which has enabled the development of strong student / teacher relationships; something the department knows helps students achieve their best. The school has an excellent pastoral structure and support network for vulnerable students with SEN needs.

Working with students with mild to moderate needs (mainly with dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD and high functioning autism), the successful applicant will be able to engage the students with their learning and build supportive and productive relationships with them. The successful applicant will be able to contribute, along with the rest of the department, to further promote and develop SEN and personalised learning across the school.

The post is a part time, fixed term maternity cover starting from September 2019. The post is suitable for an experienced teacher or an NQT, for whom the school provides the ISTIP route. The salary will be in line with mainstream sector but on the Alpha Plus Scale.
