Babcock is recruiting for an energetic and solution-focused Special Educational Needs & Disabilities Adviser. The purpose of the role is to provide strategic SEND leadership across Devon schools by providing advice and consultancy in order to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND. This will be achieved through working with schools/settings and other educational stakeholders and will support the delivery of the agreed activities in the contract with Devon County Council and through additional traded activity.

The role supports the Local Authority to discharge its duties and responsibilities, particularly those relating to improving achievement, standards and outcomes for children and young people with SEN and disabilities.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Babcock as a SEND Adviser working across Babcock teams.

Interested applicants should be able to demonstrate:

  • A passion for improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND;
  • Excellent communication skills - you will be required to communicate effectively with a range of leaders, many from different backgrounds e.g. health and social care as well as different educational settings;
  • An ability to be able to think strategically and deliver supportive challenge to schools/settings where required, to drive forward improvements within SEND provision;
  • A confidence in using data constructively across all age and phases of the education system;
  • An ability to work in close partnership with colleagues from Learner Service and School Effectiveness;
  • Creative thinking skills in order to be able to develop a traded offer which is responsive to the changing educational landscape;
  • Lively and engaging presentation skills in order to contribute to the national training programme that Babcock Education delivers;
  • Ability to carry out commissioned and statutory Local Authority functions; this will include identifying schools requiring support and intervention, planning and implementing support and evaluating the impact of actions taken;
  • Ability to provide advice and guidance to all educational stakeholders and settings on their duties under the relevant legislation;
  • Ability to provide advice, support and appropriate challenge to schools in relation to pupils with SEN and disabilities in the following areas: school performance; pupil attainment and progress; quality of provision; Governance; leadership and management of SEND at all levels.

Key Technical Skills:

  • Track record of improving outcomes for children with SEND;
  • Ability to analyse and use data, including assessments used to record and measure pupil outcomes;
  • Ability to target support where most needed and provide practical support for teachers and leaders on strategies to improve outcomes for pupils with SEND;
  • Sound knowledge of the statutory legislation relating to SEND, including the SEND Code of Practice 2015;
  • Ability to provide SEN leadership to SENCOs, teachers and other school staff;
  • Ability to advise schools on SEND issues.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in a relevant field;
  • Qualified teacher status;
  • Successful SEN teaching experience;
  • Senior leadership experience in school and/or Ofsted trained;
  • Qualified SENCO: National Award for SEN Co-ordination (desirable);
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
