Job overview
We are looking for a qualified SENDCo to come and join our team at our small progressive school in the rural village of Elsfield, just 10 minutes from Oxford. You must be nurturing and sensitive to our children's’ needs, be flexible in your approach and be able to work extremely well with teachers and parents.
Qualification:
The National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination qualification and a Level 7 qualification which enables you to carry out assessments would be advantageous.
To begin: September 2019
Hours: Part time, 2.5 days a week (a flexible arrangement)
Salary: Dependant on experience between £11,860 to £17,504
You will be responsible for:
- ensuring the implementation of, and the day-to-day operation of the school’s SEND policy.
- putting provision in place to ensure that all students with SEND are supported and challenged to make maximum progress.
- supporting all staff in understanding the needs of students with SEND.
- being an advocate for children with SEND.
- maintaining a child centred approach.
- delivering one to one learning support sessions.
- working with primary and nursery staff to develop effective ways to remove any barriers to learning and put in place appropriate differentiation for students with SEND.
- setting challenging targets for students with SEND and monitoring their progress towards those targets through a graduated approach.
- putting in place and keeping up to date Individual Education Plans and School Support Plans.
- co-ordinating all Annual Reviews of Education and Health Care Plans, and termly reviews of Individual Education Plans and School Support Plans.
- liaising regularly with and developing a partnership with the parents of students with SEND.
- identifying and carrying out appropriate assessments and interpreting assessment data to inform practice.
- liaising with external agencies and interpreting specialist data to inform practice.
- working with staff in identifying children with SEND and supporting parents through the referral process.
- keeping the SEND register up to date.
- ensuring all the records of students with SEND are kept up to date.
- carrying out standardised reading assessments with all Primary students twice a year to monitor progress and identifying suitable targets and/or interventions with the class teacher.
- ensuring practice is in line with The Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice: 0 to 25 years (DfE/DoH 2015)
- carrying out assessments with potential Primary students with SEND to ensure the school can cater for their needs.
- coordinating the EAL register.
- working with staff to support EAL students, providing guidance to ensure students with EAL can access the curriculum.
- supporting students in lessons if required.
- carrying out assessments with potential Primary students with SEND to ensure the school can cater for their needs.
- To liaise with the senior school SENDCo especially as children are transitioning from primary to seniors.
It would be an advantage to:
carry out standardised assessments identified by the Senior School SENDCo to ensure the school meets its responsibilities under the Equality Act (2010) regarding reasonable adjustments and access arrangements. The National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination qualification and a Level 7 qualification which enables you to carry out assessments would be advantageous.
