Job overview

Thank you for your interest in the post of Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo).

Milton Keynes Academy (MKA) is an Academy with strong links in the community. Our Academy is underpinned by an ethos based on raising aspirations, raising achievement and providing opportunities, so that we realise our mission of Everyone Achieves. We are relentless in our pursuit of high standards and excellence and emphasise traditional core values of good behaviour, honesty and mutual respect.

MKA is a vibrant and rapidly improving Academy (Ofsted judgement Good October 2017) with outstanding facilities. We cater for 1400 students aged 11-19 and welcome students of all abilities. Our aim is to maximise the potential of all our learners and be at the heart of the community. According to them:

“We need a brilliant, kind and understanding SENCo, who can represent us and help us to be the best we can be. We want someone, who can talk to us on our level and understand how our parents think. Our SENCo needs to understand how we learn and they must help our teachers find ways of helping us progress, without making us feel special and singling us out. We want other students to understand how we see the world, but want to fit in, how we learn and how sometimes we need to be treated differently.

We want you to be approachable, but we also want you to enable us to become more independent.”

As SENCO you will be an outstanding Teacher, responsible for the strategic development of the school's Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) provision and oversight of the day-to-day operation of that policy, with the aim of raising SEND student achievement. You will be accountable for a team of specialist staff providing a high quality inclusive provision in a complex and demanding environment and you will have a firm conviction that all students have a right to a complete, full-time education. You will have the opportunity to work with both the senior team at the Academy and with outside agencies to be at the forefront of building a centre of local and national excellence.

Driven by a passion for inclusion and student success, you will have an excellent track record in SEND leadership and be able to inspire and motivate staff and students to perform at the highest possible levels. Whether you are currently in a leadership role or looking to make the next step-up in your career, this post is an excellent opportunity for you to really make a difference on your journey to senior leadership.

If you think that Milton Keynes Academy would be the right place for you to inspire our students and to develop your own career, please visit our website to find out further information about the post and to download an application form for completion.
