Job overview

We are looking for looking for an outstanding, innovative and determined teacher to be responsible for the strategic leadership development of Special Education Needs provision and the operational management of all SEND staff, their resources and accommodation.

You will lead Special Education Needs provision across the academy and ensure that the academy meets its statutory requirements of the SEND Code of Practice. You will also play a pivotal role in supporting our inclusive ethos, such that students with SEN or disabilities believe that ‘anything is possible’, are happy in school and achieve well.

You will lead a team of committed Teaching Assistants and ARP manager, working alongside an Assistant Headteacher who is a qualified SENCo. We are a “harmonious school” (Ofsted 2017) and we want to attract the best staff and invest in them, as we see them as our most valuable assets.

This is an exciting opportunity to join this successful 11-18 standalone Academy, situated in the picturesque village of Great Missenden. You would be joining us at a pivotal time in our development. We recently launched a unique ‘smaller school’ pastoral system; we have a multi-million-pound sports centre development underway, and are in our third year as the Careers Hub Lead School for Buckinghamshire.

What we can offer you:

• Great students who want to learn

• A strong team ethos, with caring colleagues

• An opportunity to grow and develop as a teacher, a leader and as an expert in your field

• Supportive families

• A school that genuinely believes in supporting staff and student wellbeing

• Free lunches, tea/coffee and regular staff ‘chomp and chat’ events

You will be given the opportunity to explore new ideas and ways of working and be encouraged to be innovative, collaborative, and creative using a range of strategies to develop the SEND department.

So, are you an aspiring or experienced leader with passion and drive to ensure all students achieve well? Do you share our philosophy of high aspiration and expectations for all students? Are you a leader who believes in fostering positive and collaborative relationships between students, their families and school, to help ensure there are no barriers to learning that cannot be overcome? If so, then we would love to hear from you.

This role would suit an already qualified or aspiring SENCo. If you think this could be the role for you, we encourage you to come and visit for yourself or arrange an informal conversation with us. Visits can be arranged by contacting HR@themisbourne.co.uk or telephoning 01494 862869.

Visit the ‘Joining Us’ area on our website: www.themisbourne.co.uk or contact our HR Officer, Natalie Green at hr@themisbourne.co.uk for further information and an application form. Letters of application should be addressed to the Headteacher. The closing date for applications is 9am on Monday 17 May 2021. Interviews will take place on Friday 21 May 2021, although we reserve our right to interview early for exceptional candidates. Please email your application to: HR@themisbourne.co.uk or post to The Misbourne, Misbourne Drive, Great Missenden HP16 0BN marked for the attention of Natalie Green.

The Misbourne is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and follow safer recruitment practices. All appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS check.

As Headteacher it gives me great pleasure, on behalf of the trustees, staff and students to welcome you to The Misbourne. Thank you for showing an interest in working with us.

This is a good school where every student really does matter and where our team of professional and passionate staff works hard to instil the belief in each of them that they can achieve more than they ever thought possible.

We believe that there are three things that are important to working in a school. Firstly, the students. We are fortunate to have polite and respectful students with well-supported families who want to work hard and do well but for some, lack the self-belief to really achieve their full potential. Secondly, a supportive staff body and investment in continued professional development. Staff are happy to work here and are very rightly proud of their school. They are supported by a comprehensive training programme that takes into account individual roles as well as career progression and aspirations. We are linked to two teaching schools and take a lead role in delivering training sessions for trainees from across Buckinghamshire.

Thirdly, our facilities. We are fortunate to have excellent facilities across the curriculum including a new building for the Sixth Form, English department and school café; extensive playing fields; three new IT suites and brand-new multi-million pound sports centre including dance space and fitness suite (free to use for staff). We have recently transitioned to Google in preparation for Year 7 commencing blended learning using chromebooks from September 2023.We believe that there are no barriers to learning that cannot be overcome. We strive for educational excellence in every lesson, every day, through a climate of high expectations, which are actively promoted in all aspects of school life. The Misbourne provides a learning environment that allows all students to flourish through mutual respect, kindness and a strong desire to achieve.

Through inspiring teaching; excellent pastoral care and strong partnerships with families and the wider community, our students leave us with the qualifications, skills and values needed to lead happy and successful lives and we are looking for similarly dedicated and inspirational colleagues to join us.

This is such an exciting time for the school and we welcome applications from prospective employees who share our vision, values and aspirations for students.

If you would like to visit us and see for yourself, I would encourage you to make arrangements for a tour via the school office admin@themisbourne.co.uk. Staff and students are exceptionally proud of our school and we would love to show you around.

Mr Rich Peters (LL.B) Hons
