Atelier 21 is a progressive independent small school with an enquiry based approach, where alongside discreet teaching, pupils learn through self-directed learning, project based learning and Wild Fridays (whole school outdoor learning every week).

Our mission is to ready young people for the uncertain and exciting future they face in the 21st Century and provide an education that is fit for purpose, leaving behind some outdated traditions. Please see www.atelier21schools.co.uk for more information about our school. We cater for children 4-16 years and currently have pupils 4-12 years at our school which opened in September 2021 as a first of its kind in the UK.

This role gives the successful candidate the opportunity to continue to shape and enhance our SEN provision helping and supporting students to build upon their skills and aspirations whilst also nurturing their social, pastoral and emotional development. The applicant will have an in-depth knowledge of the SEN Code of Practice 2014 and the EHCP process and should also demonstrate an understanding of outstanding classroom practice across the school ability range from Reception to Year 11. The NASENCO award is desirable, but we are open to supporting through this qualification for the right candidate and experience. The applicant will need to be a highly committed, motivated and passionate practitioner with who possesses a strong work ethic to enable them to fully support children with diverse additional needs. A flexible approach is a prerequisite.

As the SENCO, you will be responsible for maintaining the relationships with parents, teachers and external contacts to ensure the steady progress of pupils, reviewing paperwork and chairing EHCP meetings with local authorities in attendance, and managing and monitoring the therapeutic intervention being delivered to ensure that the provision is of a consistently high standard.

The school itself is a collaborative one, and as such you will find that working alongside the various subject teachers and support staff is a seamless and positive experience.

About Atelier 21 Future School

Atelier 21 is a pioneering school, designed to offer an education fit for children’s futures. Based in Broadfield Park, Pease Pottage, West Sussex, the school is the UK’s first Reggio Emilia inspired, enquiry-based learning Future School for children aged 4-16 years.

Our school is creating a stir in the educational landscape for its trailblazing approach to education which focusses on teaching children ‘how to think, not what to think.’ Its aim is to make learning more relevant, meaningful, and joyful.

The children at Atelier 21 have a democratic say in the running of the school and this shows in the revolutionary culture which nurtures mutual respect between adults and young people, hence no school uniform and pupils call the teachers by their first names.

Our school is committed to excellence in education and innovation. We are dedicated to shaping the future by empowering our students with the skills, learning powers, and

‘flex-pertise’ they need to thrive in an ever-evolving world.
