Primary Teacher Positions
Special Educational Needs Teacher

The Kuala Lumpur Alice Smith School (KLASS) is fully accredited as a British School Overseas by the Department for Education in London, receiving an ‘Excellent’ grade from its very recent inspection. Our school has an established reputation for excellence, and as a not-for-profit educational foundation, all resources are focused on the development and well-being of students. Located on two sites in Kuala Lumpur with excellent facilities, it has a total student population of approximately 1,600 and caters for the full age range from 3 to 18 years.

A KLASS teacher is an inspiring, innovative, high achieving professional with a strong track record of teaching success, possessing drive, energy and enthusiasm in abundance. Our teachers are confident, caring, helpful and supportive of students, colleagues and parents. They have the ability and determination to attain and maintain very high educational standards. They have the capacity and dedication to keep students at the centre of all they do, raising students’ standards of attainment and the breadth and scope of students’ achievement to the very highest levels internationally. They are highly computer literate and instinctively use a broad range of learning technologies to impact on learning and teaching.

Primary Special Educational Needs teachers will be allocated as a Key Worker to work with students in EYFS, KS1 or KS2 according to skill set, experience, team dynamics and relevant vacancies. We expect all of our SEN teachers to be able to teach across the primary age range.

The SEN teacher will be a key member of the Learning Support Unit and will work in a team of teachers, specialists and professionals to ensure that the needs of students with SEN at KLASS have the best possible care and provision. Experience of working in a mainstream setting delivering SEN interventions to students with a broad range of needs and diagnostic, formative and summative assessment experience for students with SEN, are essential for success in this role. We expect all teachers to be able to teach across the primary age range.

At Alice Smith you will be encouraged and nurtured to be the best teacher you can be through professional development, peer to peer review, monitoring and evaluation and personal study. This is truly a forward thinking and innovative environment in which to work and learn. Applicants need to know; how children think, how they play and learn, and, their key developmental milestones.  We deliver a child-centred, skills based curriculum across the entire primary age range. Applicants must demonstrate that they are open to new ideas and approaches and have a thorough subject knowledge.

Please address all of these aspects in your letter of application. In addition, for whichever role you apply for, please ensure that your CV and letter clearly show how you meet the KLASS job description and person specification in the first instance.

The KLASS benefits package includes a highly competitive salary, a generous contribution towards housing, excellent medical insurance, contract renewal incentives, relocation flights and allowances and free school places for dependent children.

To apply, you MUST go through the online system at: https://klassjobs.com

We are committed to your professional growth. Our students and teachers share a love of learning and thrive from their positive and enriching experience with us. Charlotte Moore, Head of Media for the secondary campus shares her views.

“As a family we are delighted to have made the move to Alice Smith and to be part of the vibrant community in KL. We are very grateful to all of the people at Alice Smith who have made our transition from the Middle East to South-East Asia, via the UK, so much easier.  People often ask me why we made the move across the globe to live and work in KL.  For me, the answer is quite simple: the ethos at Alice Smith matches exactly what I would want for my own children and for the students that I have taught, or am yet to teach. Giving each child the best possible experience and encouraging them to make each day count means so much. Whether that is in the classroom, or by giving students experiences that allow them to develop their own character and build relationships that are built on mutual respect and trust and celebrating difference whilst we embrace diversity. Just like I don't believe there is only one winner, I also don't believe in an academic hierarchy where some subjects are more worthy than others. Alice Smith supports students to walk a path of equal opportunity with enthusiasm, pride and an open-mind.  I am looking forward to this next adventure.”

The school is a founding member of the Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA) and a long standing member of the Council of British International Schools (COBIS).  Alice Smith was accredited as a British School Overseas with an Excellent grading in both 2011 and 2014 and in March 2019, received an outstanding COBIS Patron’s Accreditation and Compliance Report.

The School is accommodated on two sites approximately 20 minutes apart, both campuses having exceptional resources and facilities. As an innovative user of technology, Alice Smith is a Google Apps for Education school working across both Windows and Mac platforms, utilising the power of Google sites and Google Classroom to provide tailored learning opportunities for our students.
