Do you have a successful track record of working effectively within your own school and/or across a group of schools to bring about sustainable improvement?

Are you feeling ambitious and ready to become a ‘system leader’ working beyond your own school to support other schools and leaders?

Specialist Leaders in Education (SLEs) are ‘outstanding’ middle or senior leaders who have the skills to support individuals or teams in similar positions in other schools. The SLE role is designed to help improve the quality of school leadership through school-to-school support and peer-to-peer learning, ultimately raising the standards and improving outcomes for children and young people.

The Priory Learning Trust are recruiting our first cohort of SLEs.

The application window will open on 11th October 2018 and the closing date is 25th October 2018.

Interviews are expected to take place on 12th November 2018.

In this round of applications we are particularly looking for specialists within the following areas:

  • English
  • Closing the Gap
  • Modern Languages
  • Science
  • Maths
  • SEND

What does an SLE do?

An SLE develops the capacity of others to lead in a specific area through: one-to-one support, group sessions, training, coaching, data analysis, action planning etc

Time Commitment?

The role lasts for four years, at which point there will be a review. There is no maximum or minimum number of days an SLE is deployed in activity across the year, it is negotiated between the teaching school, the SLE and their Headteacher.

Your School:

Your school can be any type or phase and does not need to be ‘Outstanding’; you just need to be able to demonstrate the skills and knowledge to support others.

Payment:

There is no additional payment for becoming an SLE, however your school is fully reimbursed for release time to carry out the development activities

Application process:

Applications for SLEs will open on 11th October 2018 and the final deadline to receive completed applications will be 25th October 2018

To be successful in your application, you should have:

  • A successful track record of working effectively within your own school and/or across a group of schools, or working with a range of leaders within a single school
  • Evidence of successfully using coaching and/or facilitation skills to bring about sustainable improvements
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A good understanding of what constitutes ‘outstanding’ in your field of expertise and the ability and confidence to communicate this
  • A good understanding of how your specialism and skills can contribute to wider school improvement goals
  • An analytical approach in identifying and prioritizing needs
  • The ability to set and establish new and innovative working practices
  • The ability to grow leadership capacity in others

You must have agreement and support for your application from your Headteacher
