Job overview

You will be joining a dynamic and supportive team who are individually and collectively passionate about the learning and progress of our pupils and who provide an excellent source of support and inspiration. You will also work in collaboration with our Specialist Maths Advisor for Berkshire and will be commissioned to work on a day rate for 12 days over the academic year, with the potential of this increasing.

Job Purpose:

To work closely with the BPET Director of Education and to be a member of the Trust’s team (for a set number of days) focussed on:

  • providing support and advise to BPET Headteachers and Maths Subject Leaders to help them achieve their goal of securing outstanding mathematics outcomes for all pupils
  • developing the maths teaching in the London BPET schools to be the very best it can be, rather than in response to an issue or problem: to provide consultancy that will be professional development, not quick-fix intervention
  • supporting teachers to have the opportunity to embed long-term mastery of maths. If they do so, the pupils will succeed in maths (in particular, at end-of-key-stage assessment points), and also they will enjoy it, and be confident with it, and will go to their secondary schools ready for continuing success

Main Responsibilities:

Each school in the BPET Group is entitled to a bespoke number of days, in-school support across the academic year.

Each support visit is likely to include:

  • activities such as learning walks, book looks, lesson observations, pupil forums in order to support the Headteachers and the maths subject leaders to develop the teaching and learning of maths
  • advising the Headteachers and the maths subject leaders about their choices of curriculum and their implementation of curriculum resources and materials;
  • enabling the professional development of classroom teachers and teaching assistants, through coaching, collaborative planning, team teaching and leading group INSET.

The specialist advisor will also:

  • attend and lead CPD workshops as part of the annual BPET conference in October (October 30th 2023)
  • regularly collate and share ‘best practice’ from within BPET;
  • regularly identify and share ‘best practice’ examples and research evidence from outside the Trust;
  • report termly to the Director of Education, to ensure they have an accurate and evidence-supported understanding of the quality and effectiveness of the teaching and learning of maths in each school;
  • undertake all reasonable maths-related requests from the Director of Education on the direction of work.

The post holder will have 5+ years’ worth of leadership experience, ideally across more than one school setting and have an understanding and experience of coaching and team teaching within a school context. They must be current in their understanding of maths curricular and how to teach with a mastery approach.

The post holder will report directly to the BPET Director of Education and they will work alongside all of the BPET Maths Subject Leaders, Headteachers and the Berkshire Maths Specialist.

The above list is typical of the level of duties which the post holder will be expected to perform. It is not necessarily exhaustive and other duties of a similar type and level may be required at the request of the BPET Director of Education, for example the due diligence of a new school joining BPET.

You are warmly encouraged to get in touch prior to application to discuss the position. Laura Gregory, BPET Director of Education, is available to have an informal discussion with interested applicants about the role. Please contact Claire.kevin@bpet.co.uk to arrange a discussion.

Please submit a BPET application form to Claire.kevin@bpet.co.uk by Thursday 8th June. Interviews are scheduled for Tuesday 13 June.

Please note that we will not accept CVs unless accompanied by an application form.
