Specialist Personal Tutor, 29.6 hours per week, Term Time 40 weeks, Fixed Term 12 months

We are looking for a part time Specialist Personal Tutor with subject knowledge in Construction & Engineering.

Continually striving for excellence and a strong Grade 2  College, Wigan & Leigh College is well underway  on its journey to become Outstanding.  With over 9,500 students and a turnover of £30m, the College is in a strong position to continue to move forward and grow.

The College has distinct ambitions to expand its choice of programmes and support the economic transformation of Wigan and the surrounding areas.  As a growing college we are in a strong position to continue to invest in our campuses with the development of state of the art facilities.

The College has created a community that encourages all students to enhance their learning through wider opportunities and support services; to maximise their achievements and secure progression onto further study, apprenticeships and employment.

The primary focus of this role is to improve student attendance, behaviour and ultimately achievement beyond minimum expected grades. The successful candidate will draw on past experiences to identify progression routes, employability opportunities and will be expected to escalate any welfare concerns.

Through the use of bespoke tutorials, you will embed best practice and focus on current trends which are prevalent in every day life. During the tutorial sessions, you will be expected to build a strong rapport with the students and develop a broader understanding of their individual requirements. You should also have the confidence to liaise and work with the Head of Department and teaching staff.

You will utilise college systems to record and extract data, whilst also identifying areas for development. From the data that has been gathered, you will need to communicate with individual students to address concerns and offer strategies to align their learning requirements with that of the College.

Communication, accurately recording information and feedback are areas which are paramount to this role, so it is important that the successful candidate feels comfortable working both solely and within a wider team. The successful candidate will be part of a friendly, productive, supportive  and motivated team culture.

The College reserves the right to interview for this post should we receive suitable candidates prior to the closing date.

To comply with legislation, you are required to obtain a DBS check for your role. We will be asking Protocol National Ltd/Esafeguarding Ltd to undertake this process on our behalf.

The College is only accepting direct applicants for this role, no agency contact is required.

Wigan and Leigh college is an equal opportunities employer and positively encourages applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, religion or belief, marital status, or pregnancy and maternity.
