KS2 Special Support Assistant Saint Joseph’s is a one form entry multicultural Catholic Primary School in the heart of The Borough, SE1. We serve a very diverse community in an historic and thriving area which boasts excellent transport links through London Bridge and The Borough. The school has a good reputation for its inclusive ethos and overall provision for children with a range of additional needs. We are looking for enthusiastic and creative Special Support Assistants (SSA) to join our inclusive and welcoming inner London Catholic Primary School. At Saint Joseph’s our SSAs play a key role in supporting children with special educational needs with their learning and development. They work under the direction of the Inclusion Manager and class teachers to plan, prepare and teach individual pupils or groups to enable them to access the curriculum at their level and make outstanding progress in their learning.  Specific training opportunities are offered so that SSAs can further develop their knowledge, skills and abilities to facilitate their own groups and interventions.   This is an excellent opportunity for a teaching assistant or a university graduate considering a career in education e.g. through the Schools Direct Programme. The successful candidate will be required to: 1. be a member of a team contributing to planning, preparing, delivering and evaluating learning experiences that will support the overall development and learning of children with special educational needs 2. contribute to a safe and healthy learning environment 3. contribute to learning records by assessing and recording children’s attainment and progress 4. demonstrate a good standard of written and spoken English and a good subject knowledge of mathematics 5. show an understanding of the needs of children with special educational needs and disabilities.
