We are an outstanding special secondary school for pupils with learning difficulties and are seeking an inspirational Specialist Teacher for Literacy and Numeracy to join our highly motivated and dynamic staff team. This position would be particularly suitable for an experienced primary teacher with a passion and expertise for teaching English.

You will be an experienced, exemplary teacher and role model with high expectations of pupils’ learning and behaviour. You will provide high quality instruction, support and leadership in order to produce outstanding outcomes in the area of Reading & Numeracy for the students at The Abbey.

You will work extremely closely with the teachers, teaching assistants to increase the skills base of phonics and reading strategies. For candidates who are interested there may be the opportunity to undergo higher level training (level 5) in the near future.

The Abbey is part of WMAT, a dynamic, forward thinking and innovative Trust. We are currently seven schools - three special schools and four secondaries within the Farnham, Godalming and Haslemere area. There are regular opportunities for collaborative working, CPD and the sharing of expertise between staff across the schools. There are also opportunities for staff to join a range of Trust working groups that have different areas of foci, such as safeguarding, pupil premium, teaching and learning and subject specialism.

About The Abbey School

The Abbey School is a strong and vibrant special school with places for just over 130 students aged 11-16 years who have learning difficulties and additional needs. Working in a special school is extremely rewarding, and our students continue to amaze us on a daily basis with their attitudes, achievements and behaviour. 

We converted to Academy status on 1st September 2018 and are part of the Weydon Multi Academy Trust (WMAT), a dynamic, forward-thinking and innovative Trust. We are currently seven schools – three special schools and four secondaries within the Farnham, Godalming and Haslemere areas. 

There are regular opportunities for collaborative working, CPD and the sharing of expertise between staff across the schools. There are also opportunities for staff to join a range of WMAT working groups to further their own continuing professional development.
