Directorate: Children and Young People
Ref:  CYP-17-013

The role

This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified SpLD Teacher to work with an enthusiastic and dynamic team of specialist teachers. You will join the central SpLD Team which is part of Lewisham STEPS (Specialist Teachers and Educational Psychology Service). You will work with children and young people (0-19 years) across a variety of settings. You will support schools in identifying and meeting the needs of pupils with specific learning difficulties.

This will involve providing training, consultations, assessments, recommendations and direct work with teachers, classroom assistants, pupils and parent(s)/carer(s) in relation to the needs of pupils with a Specific Learning Difficulty.  You will need to be able to support schools in developing dyslexia-friendly approaches.

This is a full time, permanent role with a start date of September 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Location

The SpLD Team is based in Kaleidoscope, Children and Young People’s Centre, 32 Rushey Green, London, SE6 4JF.  This is a multi-disciplinary centre providing a comprehensive, integrated specialist service for children and young people in Lewisham with educational, health and social needs.

What we’re looking for

You will be a highly motivated and enthusiastic person with good interpersonal skills and ability to work independently as well as part of a team. You will be committed to the development of the service and in working collaboratively with schools, parents and other professionals. You will have excellent communication skills and a clear understanding of the needs of dyslexic learners. You should have knowledge of tests and assessments which can be used for the identification of a Specific Learning Difficulty.

Qualified Teacher Status and a Specific Learning Difficulty qualification will be essential. This post is subject to a DBS check. The post is subject to Teachers’ Pay and Conditions.

In return, we’ll offer excellent development opportunities, plus a range of benefits that includes a career average pension scheme, flexible working and the opportunity to make a real difference to our local community.
