Job overview

Specialist Teacher for our Complex Communication Needs (CCN) Resource Provision at Gillingham Primary School

Start Date: 4th January 2022

Pay Scale – MPS/UPS (dependent on experience)

Allowance: SEN1

Due to the retirement of the current postholder, Gillingham Primary School has an excellent and exciting opportunity for a skilled and experienced teacher to join our team in Sky Base: our Specialist Resource Provision for children with Complex Communication Needs (CCN).

Working under the direction of the Headteacher and SENCo, (and in partnership with a range of external professionals), you will be the lead teacher for the 14 wonderful pupils who attend our provision. You will design the curriculum and individual learning plans for the pupils and will be ably supported by a team of excellent Teaching Assistants to ensure the children make fantastic all-round progress. You will support the pupils to integrate into their mainstream classroom, and the wider life of the school, as appropriate.

This could be the perfect job for you, if you are a teacher:

  • with proven experience of working with children who have CCN and/or ASC
  • who is driven by inclusion and passionate about the success and wellbeing of every child
  • is supportive of our whole school ethos
  • believes completely in working in close collaboration with parents/carers and other agencies

We strongly encourage visits to our school and look forward to meeting our next team member.

The post is not suitable for NQT’s or ECT’s

The school is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all children in its care, candidates will be asked to demonstrate an understanding of safeguarding children, and complete an enhanced DBS check prior to appointment. Our school values diversity of our workforce and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.

About Gillingham Primary School

Gillingham Primary School  is a two-form entry LA maintained school, located in the centre of Gillingham town in North Dorset close to Gillingham Secondary School to which most of our pupils transfer when they are 11.

We are a diverse and inclusive mainstream school, also hosting Specialist Resourced Provision (BASE); a 14 place unit for pupils with an EHC plan and Complex Communication Needs.

There are currently 12 classes in the school, in addition to the ‘Sky Base’ class mentioned above.  We have two classes per year group except for Year 1 and Year 3, where there is one class. Every class has a fully qualified teacher and we have extensive Teaching Assistant support throughout the school.

The School's motto is "Enjoy, Engage, Excel" and we aim to live this out through our varied and interesting curriculum, our high-quality teaching and our commitment to every child making great progress and achieving all they are capable of.  We are committed to excellence. We want the best for all our children and staff, and we hope and expect that everyone will give of their best.

We aim to be a true community school, working in partnership with parents and carers, and encouraging every child to participate actively in the life of the school and the local community. We hope that our parents will support their own children and take an interest in the success and development of the whole school.
