The successful applicant will hold an AMBDA approved post graduate qualification in teaching pupils with specific learning difficulties or a qualification of equal standing in this field.

Calder House is a coeducational day school for pupils aged 7 – 12. All our pupils experience specific learning difficulties of a Dyslexic, Dyspraxic or Dyscalculic nature and, before joining Calder House, were struggling to achieve their potential. Our mission is to re-connect them with this potential and equip with the skills and strategies they need to successfully return to mainstream education.  We have been rated OUTSTANDING by Ofsted across the board in 2012 and 2015.

The successful applicant will demonstrate enthusiasm and the ability to work successfully within an innovative and creative team. Our goal is to identify and address the particular difficulties experienced by each of our pupils. The person we are looking to recruit will be able to actively contribute to our understanding of each child’s difficulties as well as working with pupils, individually and in small groups, to deliver effective remedial support.   The successful applicant will also work effectively as part of a team liaising with other staff, including our speech and language and occupational therapists, under the leadership of our Director of Studies.

Normal working hours will be 8.45 – 13.00 five mornings a week during term time and on preparation (non-contact) days. In addition, the appointee will be expected to attend three parents’ evenings each term and write reports on pupils' progress.    The position is a part-time permanent one. The first two terms are worked on a probationary basis.
