Job overview

Could this be the teaching opportunity that you have been waiting for?!

An exciting opportunity awaits the teacher who is looking for a challenging career shift into an established and dynamic Autism outreach team within Southwark. This part-time post would be perfect for an educator with extensive ASD and SEN experience who is looking to share their passion and expertise in meeting the needs of our students with Autism in mainstream Southwark schools.

A more extensive description of the Southwark Autism Support Team can be found on the Southwark Local Offer website: http://localoffer.southwark.gov.uk/

In addition to the information provided there, we are a positive proactive team that works collaboratively with all interdisciplinary teams within Southwark including Educational Psychologists, EHCP Co-ordinators, and Specialist Teaching Teams. We are also community focused in our support and value the input of our local partners. Southwark in general seeks to engage parents and families in the support of their children with special needs, and the AST embodies and promotes that ethos.

In terms of 'technical' skills, if you have a solid understanding of the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), Structured Learning Environments (aka TEACCH), and Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) principles then your experience will be well received and appreciated within the AST. Evidence-based interventions are the foundation of our service and touchstone for good ASD practice. To that end, we provide relevant CPD for our team members so that they remain current with all developing and research-supported approaches and interventions.

If you are ready for that sideways career move and see yourself as being able to support and encourage your educational colleagues in meeting the unique needs of their students with Autism, then this may be the position that you have been waiting for.
