Holmwood School is a high performing Primary Special School for pupils who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties, ASD and complex needs. We value our position as a service for families of Middlesbrough and the Tees Valley. We are a fully inclusive school and have the expertise and flexibility to help children progress in all areas. The school is well known within the Local Authority for its innovative practices. It is highly valued by the partnerships with which it works. In addition, the school runs a successful Extended Services provision from its Community Space for Sports and Arts.

We are seeking to appoint a Specialist Teaching Assistant Level 1 with excellent interpersonal and social skills who can communicate effectively and empathetically with pupils, staff and parents. Applicants should also have proven team working and organisational skills and a confident but non-confrontational interpersonal style.

Our committed and highly skilled staff work in a challenging but rewarding and supportive environment.

Candidates must be enthusiastic, flexible, and comfortable working with children who are vulnerable and who can challenge. Additional training will be provided for working with/supporting children who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties, ASD and complex needs. Full training will be provided in Behavioural Management and Learning Support.

This would be an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to start or develop their career as a Specialist Teaching Assistant.

The appointed person should have a minimum qualification of NVQ Level 2 and possess good Literacy and Numeracy skills (at least GCSE Grade C Maths and English or an equivalent).
