Job overview

Harris Academy Merton is currently looking for a qualified Speech & Language Therapist to provide assessment, advice and treatment for children and young people attending the Academy who have speech and language needs. The successful candidate will work with teaching and support staff to achieve the targets set out in EHCPs and make recommendations to support learning, where necessary.

Main Areas of Responsibility

The purpose of your role will be:

  • SLCN support and intervention for all students at the Academy who have an EHCP or who are on the SEN register.
  • The provision of individualised programmes of intervention according to student need and assessment data.
  • The assessment and monitoring of students with SLCN needs and ASD.
  • The monitoring of assigned students on the SEN register.

Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • Degree/Diploma in Speech and Language Therapy recognised by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Membership of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
  • Experience or knowledge of dealing with children with ASD/ADHD/PDA/severe language disorders
  • Knowledge of a range of learning barriers in addition to Speech and Language needs
  • Training in/knowledge of a range of communication and teaching methods

Harris Academy Merton is an 11-18 co-educational Academy for 1,500 students. The Academy opened in September 2006 on the site of the predecessor school. The Academy benefits from a brand new state-of-the-art Post 16 block and high quality buildings. Harris Merton is judged by Ofsted to be an Outstanding School. Harris Merton offers specialisms in Enterprise and Science. It is an oversubscribed school at the heart of its local community.
