Job Title:      Speech and Language Therapist

Location:      Parkside House School, Newcastle

Salary:        £27,000 - £50,000 per annum

Hours:             22.5 hours per week minimum

Contract:          Permanent - 52 weeks per annum

About the role

We are looking for an Speech and Language Therapist to join our in-house Clinical Team, at Parkside House School, near Newcastle. Working collaboratively with the sites, you will deliver bespoke assessment and intervention plans for our children and young people with developmental trauma, autism, ADHD, complex and SEMH needs.

Working within overall framework of the service policies and procedures, you will be supporting the integration of the specific service in the day to day running of each provision i.e., standardised assessments and clinical services. A key aspect of the role will be to deliver the wellbeing and clinical rainbow strategy at a universal and enhanced specialist level to support our wider teams in meeting our children and young people’s needs in line with set Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Options Autism has recently launched an innovative new Autism Strategy. The main objective is to continually progress in our approach to education provision in an environment conducive to the strengths and needs of autistic young people within our schools. The strategy emphasises the importance of genuine engagement and empathic relationships to increase every individual’s experience of meaningful achievements and positive emotions. It has been created and refined, through a review of current autism literature and consultation from the Lived Experience Expert Panel, made up of autistic adults and parents of autistic young people, a clinical multi-disciplinary team and the OFG Advisory Board. The foundations of the strategy are three core principles: Ask, Accept and Develop - AAD.

With this in mind, we are looking for a Senior Speech and Language Therapist who shares our vision; to build incredible futures by empowering vulnerable young people in the UK to be happy and to make their way in the world.

Location: Based at Parkside House School, Newcastle

Parkside House School is a specialist provision for pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs with other associated learning difficulties, including autistic spectrum disorders, attachment disorders, ADHD and ADD.

Essential Criteria:

  • Recognised Speech & Language Therapy degree
  • Valid and up to date HCPC Registration
  • Registered member of RCSLT
  • Previous experience of paid or voluntary work within a trauma or complex needs setting
  • Clear and concise report writing relating to clinical and research activities
  • Hold a full UK driving licence, with access to a car (Desirable)
  • Experience within the specialist client group. (complex communication issues relating to autism, including language disorder, dyspraxia, sensory impairment, learning disabilities/difficulties and associated challenging behaviour) (Desirable)
  • Experience of multi-professional work with teams or services within the designated speciality preferred. Newly qualified candidates will be considered.
  • Ability to work independently
