The Aurora Group

Be a part of something new! Opened on February 21st 2022, The Aurora Poppyfield School is an innovative new provider for 11-16 year old pupils with Special Educational Needs. We have taken a mixed academic approach to create an environment where young people can achieve their own goals and thrive - be that with GCSEs or a vocational route.

We are currently seeking to recruit a Speech and Language Therapist for 8 hours per week (increasing as the cohort grows), to join our team of professionals in the rewarding task of shaping this exciting new provision, right from the very start.

The role / key duties

As our Speech and Language Therapist; your role will be to work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team by making initial and ongoing assessments of our students speech, language and social communication skills, develop, implement and review communication programmes, and deliver speech and language therapy interventions, direct and indirect, 1:1 or in small groups, as appropriate.

To facilitate this, you’ll be expected to plan, deliver, review and adapt a social communication intervention across the school with a predominant focus on delivering therapy in small groups, by creating visual supports such as Social Stories, visual timetables, etc, and promote a total communication approach across the service.

Additionally you’ll supervise and provide support and guidance to our therapy assistants and support staff where appropriate.

Naturally, you will take responsibility for writing professional assessment reports following assessments and progress reports for annual review of EHCP, and contribute to the development of the wider service implementation plan in respect of the speech and language therapy input.
