Job Title: Speech and Language Therapist
Reporting to: SENCo
Grade/Salary: £40, 000 - £43, 000
Hours: 4 days per week
Contract: Permanent, Term-time only
Probationary Period: 6-month probationary period
Location: Main Road Nurseries, Stanwell Moor Road, TW19 6BS (Close to T5 Heathrow)

Green Corridor is a registered charity and approved Section 41 Post-16 Specialist Education Provider for young people with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), aged 16-25 with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Learning Disabilities.
Green Corridor provides the best quality of education and care for vulnerable young people and adults through a vibrant bespoke learning pathway, which enhances their future employability and nurtures outstanding personal development. Our study programmes are individualised to the needs of each learner to prepare them for education at the next level or for employment.
All learners have access to regular one-to-ones for emotional and wellbeing support alongside our Enrichment Programme and support into employment.
Summary of the Role
Green Corridor requires the skills of an enthusiastic and reliable Speech and Language Therapist. This role will be extremely rewarding, you will be welcomed into a small team of staff and will be supporting young adults aged 16 – 25 with Special Educational Needs.
The role of the Speech and Language Therapist at the Green Corridor is to provide therapeutic intervention, training, consultation, and advice to:
- Learners aged between 16-25 with Special Educational Needs presenting a with range of communication needs
- Educators, parents/carers
- Employers
- The therapist works with a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) at the Green Corridor to discuss and co-ordinate services to meet the diverse needs of Learners. The team reflects a range of professional skills:
- Clinical Psychologist
- Occupational Therapist
- Counsellor

Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the Role
- Induct, support, supervise and appraise therapeutic practitioners, students and volunteers ensuring all work is carried out to Family Action minimum standards and is designed and delivered to maximise agreed outcomes.
- Manage complex cases, cultural and linguistic differences, and to generate strategies.
- Run one-to-one sessions with our young people to support them with their communication needs.
- Carry out holistic assessments, signpost service users to other services where appropriate and hold a caseload of complex cases.
- Assist parents/carers/professionals in their understanding of the impact of trauma and loss, in order that they might respond appropriately to the emotional needs of children and young people.
- To demonstrate specialist knowledge in communication and swallowing disorders.
- To contribute to the assessment and information-gathering regarding service users’ mental capacity and ability to give informed consent with support from senior colleagues, and to assist service users to maximise their independence in decision-making and communicating their wishes.
- Take responsibility for accessing supervision and responding to any case or service decisions effectively, recording all decisions and ensuring that confidentiality and professional boundaries are maintained at all times.
- Provide clinical and safeguarding supervision to therapeutic practitioners working directly with children and families who have experienced trauma and loss.
- Provide advice, consultation and training to professionals and promote partnerships.
- Keep up to date with current developments in social care practice affecting children and families, including the practical application of, relevant legislation, and guidance such as Working Together and the organisational framework and thresholds in which services are delivered.

Other duties
- The post holder will be required to undertake other appropriate activities related to achieving the organisations objectives, as determined by the CEO.
- Hours will be predominantly two days a week, 9:00 – 16:00, however the role will require the successful candidate to work flexible hours e.g. EHCP reviews and parent meetings.
Person Specification
Experience
Essential
- 3 years relevant experience in speech and language therapy
- 2 years working with adults with special educational needs
- 2 year’s experience in offering clinical supervision for team members
- To have experience of managing a caseload involving assessment and treatment of dysphagia
- Experience in Mental Health and working with people with SEN
- Evidence of continuing Professional Development
Desirable
- Prior experience of working with people within the deaf community

- Excellent planning, assessment and verbal and written communication skills including the ability to produce high quality manual and electronic records and reports
- Degree or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy
- Registered with the HCPC
