The post offers an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, innovative, positive and enthusiastic professional to make an exceptional contribution to the coaching of sport at New College School. The successful candidate will have a high level of professional skills, a genuine enjoyment of working with children and other adults, an open-minded and collegial attitude, and an enthusiasm for the ethos and aims of the school. They will be interesting and interested, kind, calm, committed, and willing to go the extra mile for their pupils. They will have an excellent rapport with children and be able to deal sensitively and imaginatively with their needs.
Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Coaching Games throughout the school to the highest standard (a football coaching qualification and/or a strength in hockey may be an advantage), and being available to assist in or cover other lessons, and potentially to assist with 1:1 or small group lessons in the school’s Inclusion (SEND) department. The school’s main sports are: football, hockey, cricket, tennis and athletics. (Other sports are also available through the school’s Enrichment Activities programme)
- Teaching sport-based activities as part of the school’s Enrichment programme
- Embedding the effective learning skills promoted by the Pre-Senior Baccalaureate (PSB) in
Sport lessons throughout NCS, potentially also attending the annual PSB Sport day
- Contributing to the school’s performance management process through productive and
sensitive lesson observations and feedback
- Organising contributions from the Games department for the school’s annual magazine, The Newswire, and the annual anthology of pupils’ work, The Nucleus.

About New College School
New College School is an independent day school for boys aged 4-13. New College is one of Oxford’s oldest and best-known Colleges; the School is situated close to and is owned and governed by the College as an integral part of its operation. Some 20 of the School’s current pupils are the internationally-renowned New College choristers.
The School is a small and friendly community of some 160 pupils. There is one class in each year of the School and, in Year 8, pupils take the Prep School Baccalaureate and some will be selected for the Academic Scholarship class. Apart from its strong academic standing, the School’s complementary focus on music, the arts and sport is notable.
