Job overview

As a member of the sports department, the successful candidate will lead and develop Netball coaching and playing throughout the School.  There is the opportunity to work with other sports. S/he will be fully involved in all fixtures and training sessions during the week, including Games afternoons. 

The Sports Coach is responsible for supporting the development and delivery of an effective sports coaching programme, working with players in school years 7 to 13. The coach will assist the development of players of all standards positioning King Edward’s at the forefront of sports development.

The Sports Department at King Edward’s is one of the busiest but most exciting departments in the School.  Pupils in Years 7 to 9 have three hours of Games and one Core PE lesson per week.  Those in Years 10 to 11 have two hours of Games per week plus Core PE, whilst the Sixth form have two hours of Games.  

All year groups have after-school training practice on top of the curriculum Games sessions. IGCSE PE is offered to Year 10 pupils who will then sit their exam in Year 11. We also offer the IB Sport Science and A-Level PE courses for those pupils in the Sixth Form.

There are over 20 sports and physical activities offered at the school where we enjoy local and National success with both teams and individual pupils. The sports department is made up of 4 qualified full-time PE teachers and Games coaches who deliver the curriculum to pupils from Year 7 to Year 13.

King Edward's Witley is a co-educational boarding and day school for some 470 pupils, around 30% of whom are full or weekly boarders. It caters for boys and girls, with main entry points at 11+, 13+ and Sixth Form. Around 31% of students are from abroad, from around 40 different countries. There is a Sixth Form of 98, most of who go on to universities, including Oxford and Camb. At the same time the curriculum is deliberately broad and suitable for pupils of differing abilities. The School has become known for its innovative approach and offers both the International Baccalaureate and A-levels in the Sixth Form.

The Area: King Edward’s Witley occupies 100 woodland acres on the edge of Witley, a village on the borders of Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire. It is about twelve miles from Guildford and four miles from Godalming. Witley station is on the Portsmouth to Waterloo railway line and the journey from London takes just under an hour by train. The School is 45 minutes by taxi from both Heathrow and Gatwick airports. The area is a noted beauty spot and the School is surrounded by woodland, heathland and commons. Local amenities include the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford and the School is within close proximity of London and the south coast. There are good shopping facilities in Haslemere, Godalming and Guildford.
