Main Purpose of Job

• To be an effective teacher to pupils across the age and ability range with various needs.

• To contribute to the development of the department.

• To promote a healthy lifestyle

Main Responsibilities & Duties

The successful applicant will: 

• have an involvement in the teaching of PE and Games across the school

• assist in the planning and delivery of the sports programmes

• help with sporting fixtures 

• develop games suitable to the pupils’ needs

• attend departmental meetings and be involved with suggesting ideas for development

• have a high level of commitment to Extra Curricular Activities

• be a good motivator of both individual pupils and teams 

• have the ability to coach at an appropriate level for all pupils considering their additional needs

• take a holistic approach to the Department’s sporting ethos 

• have very high levels of organisational and administrative ability 

• require good communication 

• need a sense of humour and the ability to work in a busy environment 

To be an effective teacher of PE to pupils across the age and ability range

• To use assessment to further improve pupils’ learning and to be able to report progress to the leader of the PE Department

• Ensure high standards of behaviour through implementation of the school’s Behaviour Policy.

• Ensure all relevant school policies and procedures are adhered to.

To contribute to the strategic development of the Department

• Contribute to the development of the PE Department and cross-curricular relationships.

• To undertake to improve own performance through sharing best practice with colleagues from the PE Department.

• Play a full part in the successful running of events organised by the department.

• Be receptive to innovative ideas that offer developmental opportunities to the department

• Be creative in developing new initiatives that support identified whole school priorities and improve standards and achievement in the department and across the school.

• Work to competing deadlines, prioritise and plan time carefully, identifying what outcomes will have the most impact on pupil progress.

• Work independently and take responsibility for decisions made within agreed good practice boundaries.

Decision Making

• Take appropriate actions to improve the behaviour and attainment of pupils.

• Two main hall areas, school fields, tennis / netball courts, Local Leisure Centre

• Access to office facilities, desk and computer. 

Contacts & Relationships

The post holder will:

• Work closely with teachers and support staff at every level in the school; pupils, parents/carers to provide information and advice, direct, guide, motivate, monitor, praise and sanction.

In addition to the above responsibilities and duties the post holder will carry out the professional duties expected of all teachers as laid out in the Teachers’ Standards document 2012, and in the Egerton Rothesay Staff Handbook.

Egerton Rothesay School, located on the outskirts of Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire, is an all-through, co-educational school for children aged 8 to 19. There are 160 pupils enrolled in total. The school’s modern buildings are surrounded by spacious grounds, with dedicated areas for one-to-one teaching, the junior school and specialist support teams.

Egerton Rothesay caters for children with a range of needs, from dyslexia and dyspraxia as well as those with school anxiety.

Egerton Rothesay School was founded on Christian values. The school encourages pupils to learn about the religious community and Christian beliefs. All students are expected to attend assemblies and religious education lessons, as well as church services. Pupils are also encouraged to get involved and celebrate the milestones of the faith.
