City of London

Strategic Education and Skills Director

Use your expertise to expand the City Corporation’s role in education.

There is nothing quite like the City of London. We’re a diverse organisation with a remit that goes way beyond that of an ordinary local authority – with the challenges and opportunities to match. We promote London as the world’s leading international finance and business centre, work with local communities to increase skills, employment and opportunities for all Londoners and enhance London as a hub of culture, history and green space. Join us, and pursue a career like no other.

This is your chance to lead an innovative education unit that sponsors and co-sponsors high achieving academies, with more being developed this year.  We’ll look to you to oversee the delivery of the City of London Corporation’s Education Strategy 2016 – 2019, providing expert advice to the Director of Community and Children’s Services on the development of the City’s role in education. You’ll shape the future direction of our adult learning services, develop the City Corporation’s Apprenticeship Programme, and oversee the education budget, including distributing funds for the academy expansion project. An excellent advocate and relationship builder, you’ll forge strong partnerships with the City of London Academies Trust to ensure the success of this project.

You will have experience across a range of educational establishments including senior leadership at a school, local authority or academy trust. You’ll be skilled at working with head teachers and principals to provide support and challenge. Confident in a large, complex political environment and aware of the changing national context of education, you’ll have the ability to tackle underperformance at all levels. Your authenticity, consistency and passion, together with your flair for managing resources and change, will ensure you can hit the ground running in this challenging role.
