About Scissett Middle School…

Wakefield Road, Scissett, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. HD8 9JX
T: 01484 865444 •  • E: office@scissett.com

Scissett Middle School is a 10 – 13 large middle school of 564 pupils.  We are situated in the semi-rural Dearne Valley and have a wide catchment area that includes the villages of Scissett, Denby Dale, Skelmanthorpe, Flockton and Cumberworth.

Happiness, friendship, care, kindness and success, blend together effortlessly, creating the unique ethos and family atmosphere of our school.  As a middle school, we are able to nurture and develop all our pupils in a safe, yet stimulating environment; the close care and support for each individual pupil is genuinely personalised.  Outstanding pastoral care and an exciting and challenging curriculum, combine smoothly and effectively with a wide-ranging and inclusive programme of cross-curricular activities, to enable pupils to reach high academic standards.

Children at Scissett Middle School enjoy a wide range of activities that extend their experience in many parts of the curriculum. Health and Safety is emphasised in all school activities, and always plays a key role in the organisation of field trips and visits.

In our recent inspection (October 2019), Ofsted judges us to be a ‘good school’. The following quotes are just some of the inspectors' judgements of different aspects of our work in school. They give us great encouragement and act as a spur as we aim for further improvement.

“ This is a happy and caring school and staff have high expectations for all pupils.   Pupils enjoy coming to school. They attend well. Pupils show respectful and tolerant attitudes towards each other and staff. They are proud of their school."

"Leaders expect pupils to work hard and behave well. Pupils show positive attitudes towards their learning."

"Pupils understand how to be responsible and active citizens. There is a range of opportunities for pupils to contribute to their school and the wider community."
