Job overview

We are recruiting a co-ordinator to lead the work of the SDC, delivering interventions aimed to develop self-awareness and social skills of our students. The SDC plays a vital role in preventing exclusions and reintegrating students back into school life following time off school. You will need to have a passion for working with vulnerable children, high levels of empathy and a patient and calm approach to working with students with significant social and emotional difficulties.

This post will suit dynamic, hard-working and committed graduates who would like to be part of a transformational educational experience. A degree in psychology would be preferable, although not essential, and training in counselling or mentoring skills will be a distinct advantage. A keen desire to work alongside teachers to differentiate lessons for these students is essential. The ideal applicant will also be organised, creative, self-aware and motivated to develop a reflective approach to working with children.   The Academy was rated outstanding in its most recent inspection.  We are developing a highly academic culture where the highest standards are expected of staff and students.

We can offer you:

• Access to our Teacher Training School – we see this role as an excellent stepping stone for a career in teaching

• Regular access to in-school training opportunities, to develop your understanding of a wide range of Special Educational Needs as well as to further your wider professional development

• A positive, friendly and welcoming environment.  How to apply:

About Pimlico Academy

Pimlico Academy is a mixed ability non-fee paying school for 11-19 year olds. The academy opened in September 2008 and is sponsored by Future Academies. The academy became an all-through school, 3 to 19, from September 2013 when the first Reception class started at our on-site primary school, Pimlico Primary.

The academy has improved rapidly since taking over from the predecessor school and was judged good by Ofsted in December 2021. The percentage of students achieving 5 GCSE 9 -4 grades with Maths and English has improved from 36% to 69%. 90% of students achieved A*-C at A Level in 2016.

The distinguishing factor at Pimlico is our determination to provide pupils with the same standard of education that is on offer at the best independent schools and to ensure all pupils leave the academy as culturally literate young adults. The academy’s sponsor has established The Curriculum Centre to develop and implement a knowledge-based curriculum. We have an excellent Raising Aspirations programme, extensive extra-curricular provision, academic intervention tutors and a wide array of support to enable students to reach their potential.

We employ only very well-qualified staff who are committed to knowledge-rich education and embody a determination to ensure every pupil at Pimlico is hardworking, articulate, literate, ambitious, independent, confident, courteous and compassionate.
