Our Organisation 

Nelson and Colne College Group is a beacon for educational excellence, made up of a family of colleges – Nelson & Colne College, Lancashire Adult Learning & Accrington & Rossendale College. Our College Group is now the only Further Education college in Lancashire to be graded as ‘Outstanding’ under the new Ofsted inspection framework.

Together the Group forms a Sixth Form, Skills and Technology Centre, University Centre, employer training and adult learning provider delivering exceptional teaching and learning to all ages and at all levels.


The Exciting Role 

A new and exciting opportunity has become available for a Student Personal Development Officer within our Safeguarding, Health and Wellbeing team. You will work in a developmental way to enhance students' personal development skills.  This is a rewarding post supporting our learners to build positive characteristics that will enable them to be successful both in college and in their future aspirations.

The successful candidate will be based across both sites; Accrington & Rossendale College and Nelson & Colne College. 



What You Will Be Doing:

• Report into the Safeguarding and Prevent Manager and under their guidance, develop positive relationships with students to enhance their personal development, behaviour and attitudes enabling them build positive characteristics and be respectful, responsible and active citizens

• Positively educate, intervene and deescalate student behaviour maintaining a calm and safe environment throughout the campus

• Work alongside curriculum colleagues to ensure a consistent approach to the college’s behaviour strategy


What We Are Looking For:

• 4 GCSEs or equivalent including Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above

• Successful experience of working with young people

• Possess excellent communication skills with the ability to relate to and empathise with a broad range of students of different ages, from different backgrounds and cultures. Tactfully prevent or calm disruptive behaviour and deal fairly but firmly with people if they do not comply with reasonable requests

• Good IT, organisational and administration skills 

• Display initiative, be positive and enthusiastic

About Nelson and Colne College

Nelson and Colne College, located in the town of Nelson, Lancashire, offers further education to 1,600 full-time students and 3,500 part-time adults. The college was founded during the reorganisation of education in Pendle in the early 1970s and created by the merger of several local sixth forms. 

Recent investments have included a £2m engineering facility, an all-weather sports pitch and gym, fully equipped science laboratories, and student study and social spaces. In January 2017, Nelson and Colne College launched a university centre to offer a range of higher education programmes in East Lancashire and beyond.
