Job overview

The role of Student Services Coordinator is to support our students and teaching delivery teams in the day to day running of our busy and creative training centre in Brighton and to act as one of the first points of contact for students, staff and visitors to the centre relating to pastoral and safeguarding concerns. 

This is a varied and rewarding role, including coordinating pastoral services, providing information, advice and guidance in order to support the students in overcoming barriers to learning and successfully completing their programmes with us and also providing a front of house contact point.

Working with the Centre Coordinator in Brighton the post holder will have a positive relationship with students on all Dv8 programmes, linking where necessary with parents and outside agencies to ensure we are best able to support our students to attend and achieve, as well as acting as an essential support in the main Centre Office. 

The post holder will also work closely with the Teaching and Learning, Marketing & Recruitment and Management teams supporting ongoing organisational developments. 

The role would suit an outgoing and confident individual with excellent interpersonal, administrative and organisational skills who has an interest in education, creativity and support for young people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pastoral support
  • Referrals to external services and follow up.
  • Source and support with external agencies to come in and provide specialist pastoral services
  • Build up network of known services in local area and contacts.
  • Provide in-house pastoral and welfare support to Dv8 students as required.
  • Act as C-Card lead and liaise with Sexual Health services in Brighton.

 

Safeguarding (Safeguard Lead and Deputy to DSL in Brighton)

  • Accurate reporting and recording of any safeguarding or child protection incidents.
  • Case work where appropriate to ensure students engage with outside support agencies and are enabled to remain in learning at Dv8
  • Timely reporting to Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) of incidents.
  • Be point of call for all staff in centre for reporting incidents or safeguarding concerns
  • Complete all necessary training up to Safeguard lead level.
  • Carry out necessary referrals and information sharing, in line with GDPR data protection and privacy policies.


Attendance

  • Assist on attendance monitoring and SMS messaging or calling of students and parents in event of non-attendance. 
  • Ensure accurate note taking on registers & communication with relevant teaching teams 
  • Troubleshoot attendance issues and chase up non attenders

 

​Student Financial Assistance

  • Promote and provide guidance for our student bursaries
  • Promote and provide guidance for our Free College Meals

 

Careers and Education Information, Advice and Guidance

  • Provide all students with up to date and accurate Information, Advice and Guidance and progressions support as required related to their programmes, progression opportunities and work placements.
  • Support students to identify appropriate progression opportunities for the following year, apply for continued education  or employment opportunities.

 

General Admin

  • Administration of the Safeguarding files both digitally and hard copy
  • Maintenance and administration of Pastoral notes and the contact logs


Person Specification

Essential Skills Required

  • Excellent communicator and ability to work positively with young people, staff, stakeholders and partners
  • High level of literacy and numeracy
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Excellent level of organisational and administrative skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to complete and finish tasks on-time and to a high standard
  • Practical at problem solving and working on one’s own initiative
  • Previous experience in an student services/ IAG position
  • Capable of managing workloads, prioritising accordingly and working independently
  • Self-driven and flexible approach to changing work tasks
  • Ability to thrive is a busy and growing educational establishment
  • Excellent team working skills
  • Experience and knowledge of Safeguarding and Child Protection processes


Desirable Skills

  • Experience of working with young people
  • Experience of working within an education environment
  • Relevant CEIAG qualification (level 3)  or willingness to work towards
  • Safeguard Lead training


Qualifications Required

  • Prior qualifications up to Level 3 and English and Maths GCSE
