Landmark is a well-established programme is for students with moderate learning difficulties and is designed to enable young people with EHCPs to make a successful transition from school to work, further training and/or independent living opportunities. This is achieved through giving the students access to the college’s wide range of vocational and community resources, with practical and Life-Skills taught alongside Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT in small, appropriately supported groups. Students can tailor their own personalised study-programme through a range of options including Gardening, Horse Care, Horse Riding, Animal Care, Art, Music, Sports Studies, Construction, Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Cookery/Food Studies.


As an SSA you will be supporting students on the Landmark programme in both practical and classroom-based sessions, as well as monitoring their safety throughout the college day. You will support our specialist teachers in delivering high quality teaching and learning, carrying out assessments and reviews and supporting students through their qualifications. You may also be required to support learners on other sections of our Oaklands SEND provision, such as LLW and Supported Learning.


KEY RESPONSIBILITES


- Support students in classroom activities e.g. work with written materials, computers etc. - Support students working on practical tasks, off-site activities and work placements

- Prepare and adapt teaching materials under the direction of teaching staff

- Take responsibility for the preparation, upkeep and organisation of learning areas, classrooms and resources

- Support students to access college resources and facilities

- Be aware of and adhere to risk assessments for individuals

- Take responsibility for the safety, medical status and emotional well-being of students under supervision at all times

- To communicate regularly with course tutor to ensure any student-related issues are identified and addressed

- Advocate on behalf of the student as and when appropriate

- Attend and contribute to course team meetings, site meetings, tutorials and curriculum development as part of the evaluation process

- Contribute to assessments, progress reviews and EHCP reviews where appropriate  

RECRUITMENT- Short listing criteria

- 2 year’s general work experience of working with students in either schools, adult education, voluntary/charitable organisations

- Good standard of education 5 GCSE’s grade C or above or equivalent qualification or extensive experience
