Job overview

We are recruiting a Subject Lead in Design and Technology to join Oak’s Education Team.

This is a unique opportunity to join Oak as it builds from its role supporting remote education during the pandemic to develop high-quality, evidence-based, in-class exemplar curricula and lesson resources to support teachers.

The successful candidate will work closely with partners within and outside of Oak, to oversee the development and iteration of an exemplar Design and Technology curriculum and accompanying lesson resources, as part of a large programme of production across multiple subjects. The successful candidate will also be a visible ambassador and spokesperson for their subject and for Oak National Academy.

Expert subject knowledge, curriculum leadership, delivery and collaboration skills are critical for this role. Experience of contract performance management would be ideal but is not essential.

The role is part time (0.6 FTE) and our core working days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, to allow effective collaboration time with colleagues. This is predominantly a remote role with occasional in-person events and activities.

We are here to improve pupil outcomes and close the disadvantage gap by supporting teachers to teach, and pupils to access a high-quality curriculum.

We achieve this through building and developing our brilliant team who then collaborate with experts from across different sectors to produce the Oak platform.

On average 32,000 teachers and 170,000 pupils used Oak each week last year. By any domestic benchmark that is impressive. But it’s less than 10% of teachers and just under 3% of pupils in England. Our products must always be entirely optional for teachers, but we know from our evaluations they have a positive impact, so we want to significantly increase these numbers.

We offer flexible working where you can base yourself at home or in an office; whichever works best for you. We believe in continually getting better as an organisation and as individuals and so there are plenty of opportunities for growth and a generous Learning and Development policy. Our team is supported with generous maternity, paternity and adoption leave so that their families get a fantastic start.

If Oak sounds like somewhere you could do your life’s best work then we would love to hear from you. We use Applied platform to support diversity in our recruitment.

Oak is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age. We particularly encourage applications from Black and minority ethnic candidates who are currently under-represented.
