Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an excellent Subject Lead - History to start in August 2021 to lead our History team in the provision of an excellent, engaging and innovative History curriculum. The successful candidate will not only be passionate about their subject, and have exceptional subject knowledge, but also have a passion and drive to deliver and engage students in their pursuit of subject skills, knowledge and understanding.

The Department

The History team will consist of three teachers and will grow each year as the school grows to full cohort and brings online our Primary provision.  This post is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional practitioner, who has a vision of the curriculum from nursery to Year 11. Our students are hard-working, eager and have a great thirst for learning; they make our job delightful.

The Role

We are seeking to appoint a Subject lead, with exceptional subject knowledge, to inspire, shape, and steer our team and curriculum in the right direction. We are looking for an innovative and strategic thinker, with vision and ideas, who leads by example, and someone who believes in research informed strategies to accelerate progress and maximise our students’ outcomes.

This position is ideal for a candidate who is passionate about their subject, brimming with ideas and initiatives to help enhance teaching practice, learning and outcomes for all groups of learners. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and energetic staff team who strive to ensure that all students enjoy learning and surpass expectations.

Our school

Avanti Fields School is a newly established all-through school which welcomed the first intake of Year 7 students in September 2018. The school is rapidly expanding and will grow year by year to a full cohort of 1,320. This is an exciting time to join the school as it continues its journey to outstanding.

Avanti Fields is a Hindu-designated faith school, part of the growing family of Avanti schools. However, staff and students at Avanti Fields School do not originate from any specific faith background. Applications are welcome from practitioners of any faith and from those of none; they will, however, be expected to be in full sympathy with the unique ethos and vision of the School.

The staff team is passionate about our school and are relentlessly focused on improving the achievement and opportunities for all our students. All staff that work at the school will need to subscribe to our ethos and values and seek to improve and develop their own practice and performance for the benefit of our students. This is a unique opportunity to help develop a new and innovative school which is driven by three key elements for both students and staff:

• Educational excellence

• Character formation

• Spiritual insight

As a genuine all-through school, we are in the position to make a long term, lasting and positive impact on our students’ lives.  The behaviour of learners in our schools is excellent and our parents, carers and students are highly aspirational.

We believe in high expectations, challenge and support to enable our students to understand and develop into the best version of themselves. Through coaching and time allocated to professional development, we support our teachers to excel in creating a highly successful learning environment for our students.

In this role you will:

  • Have specialism in History
  • Have a successful track record at GCSE History
  • Be able to self‐start, work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Show initiative and take personal responsibility for your own actions with the motivation to work hard
  • Embrace any activity that is in the interests of protecting and the education of young people
  • Demonstrate the desire to continually raise standards
