Required for May or September 2017, an enthusiastic and well qualified Teacher of Mandarin to lead and manage this subject specialism within our outstanding Languages Department and to lead the school’s Confucius Classroom and Mandarin Excellence programmes, which involves supporting other local schools in the teaching of Mandarin. The successful candidate will also act as the Manager of the Essex-Jiangsu Centre to promote teaching and learning of Mandarin Chinese language and culture in Essex, and facilitate cross-cultural exchanges. The school has three partner schools in China and regularly visits the country as part of the school’s extensive visits and exchanges programme.
The school is looking for a teacher who has a track record of successful practice in the classroom, and has the ability to work effectively with other colleagues to support the development of Chinese Mandarin at AES and in our partner schools. This involves a wide-ranging programme of enrichment.
This is a prestigious post and an exciting opportunity for a teacher of Mandarin to join a successful and diverse team of language specialists in a school which believes strongly in all children learning a minimum of two languages and offering seven different languages at GCSE. Mandarin is taught currently in Year 7 as part of the Mandarin Excellence Programme and in September, we will begin the expansion to Year 8. It is already taught at GCSE and in the 6th form as part of the International Baccalaureate and abinitio. In 2016, 100% of our students achieved A* – C in Mandarin with 90% achieving A*/A and achieved ALPS 2. The progress measure for Languages was 0.9, putting us in the top 6% nationally.
