Job overview

Subject Leader - Economics

The post is full-time permanent position for a teacher with enthusiasm and drive who wishes to work in an academic sixth form college.  This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who wants to lead a team of dedicated and innovative teachers who promote a lively, student-centred learning environment where a strong commitment to meeting the needs of individual students is of paramount importance.  The College is fully committed to supporting all members of staff through continuing professional development and in-service training.

There are currently 65 students studying in year 12 and 52 students in year 13 who are taught by a full time subject leader and two part-time tutors.  Economics is one of the three Business Education subjects offered at King Edward’s, alongside Accounting and Business. Economics is taught to the AQA specification. In addition, as part of the student enrichment programme, the college provides finance-based subjects such as the Certificate of Financial Studies and the CISI Financial Products, Markets & Services qualification. The teaching of Economics, also, contributes towards the college Oxbridge programme known as HE+, which is supported through our link with Girton College at Cambridge University. In addition to timetabled lessons, subject staff work with students in additional workshop time to give students the opportunity to develop their skills and understanding of the subject.  The majority of our students choose to attend university after their time at college.

The ability to teach a second Business Education subject would be considered an advantage.

Further details may be obtained from the College:  telephone: 01384 398100, email:    hr@kedst.ac.uk  or via the college website: www.kedst.ac.uk.

Closing date for applications is midday Tuesday 17 April 2018. It is anticipated that interviews will take place either late April or early May. CVs cannot be accepted.

King Edward VI College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful candidates will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check.

The College celebrates diversity and aims to recruit as diverse a range of staff as possible.
