The School

Rye Hills is a popular 11-16 comprehensive school, with approximately 900 students on roll. The school is situated on an attractive, modern site on the outskirts of Redcar, in the North East of England.

From April 2017 Rye Hills School will be part of Nunthorpe Multi Academy Trust which evolved from Nunthorpe Academy, a local outstanding academy.

With the growth of Nunthorpe Multi Academy Trust, Rye Hills School is at an exciting point in its development. Successful candidates will have a wealth of opportunities to support this growth and raise standards, with the added opportunities being part of a multi-academy trust allows.

The Department

MFL is a successful department, with year on year improvements in results. In 2014 59% of those studying a language achieved at grade C or higher; in 2016 this figure was 71% and the 2017 forecast is 88%.

We have 6 members of teaching staff, including the head of department. French and Spanish are taught from Years 7-11. The head of department is line managed by a member of the Senior Leadership team.

The department teaches the AQA French and Spanish GCSE using the Studio and Viva packages, including Active Teach.

The Candidate

We require an outstanding teacher of languages with a commitment to excellence and helping every child succeed to lead our Modern Foreign Languages department. The successful applicant will have a proven track record in a secondary school and be able to deliver French and/or Spanish. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a dedicated and motivated team, to ensure that quality teaching and learning leads to outstanding progress and outcomes for all students.

Rye Hills School is a mainstream secondary school based in Redcar in Cleveland. It is a community school for girls and boys between the ages of 11 and 16. It is a non-denominational establishment. At the moment, there are around 841 students being educated at the school.

Rye Hills School aims for every child to have an excellent education in order to achieve outstanding exam results and to set them up for their futures. “The headteacher has high aspirations for pupils and for the school, and has begun to take steps to make the required improvements. Teaching, learning and assessment are slowly improving. The school’s work in promoting pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is effective. Pupils know how to keep themselves and others safe at school, in the wider community and online. Bullying is rare and pupils are confident that staff will address any problems that arise. The school’s arrangements to safeguard pupils are effective. The curriculum is well planned and contains a good balance of subjects. In key stage 4, pupils are able to select and follow different curriculum pathways which are best suited to their individual interests, skills and abilities.”
