The Role

We are looking to appoint an outstanding and inspirational Subject Leader for Music. The position will suit an experienced Music teacher with some experience of Subject Leadership.

Do you believe that there are no limits to student achievement? If so, why not consider joining our school and make a real difference to our young people.

Under the excellent leadership of our current subject leader for music, the department has grown from strength to strength over recent years.

Music at Philip Morant provides a diverse curriculum alongside a range of extra-curricular musical opportunities. These include Choir, Mixed Band, African drumming, Ukulele, String, and Guitar Ensembles. We also have a number of students who have formed their own bands. We are fortunate to have an established team of peripatetic staff facilitating individual instrumental lessons including piano/keyboard, brass, wind, strings, singing and drums.

Our music department has received significant investment since joining the Sigma Trust. We have two refurbished Mac suites running the latest version of Logic, in addition to seven practice rooms and a fully functioning recording studio.

The school-based music performance opportunities available for our pupils include our annual Christmas, Summer and Guitar concerts, as well as the annual school show (as part of the wider performing arts department). Philip Morant music students have also taken part in events within the wider community, performing carols in a local nursing home, the school prom at Charter Hall and the schools rock prom.

We are seeing an increase in the uptake of GCSE Music every year as the department has grown and are keen to see this grow to enable us to offer a key stage 5 provision.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

● Be accountable for student progress and development within the department.

● Be innovative in your own teaching and to develop and enhance the teaching practice of others.

● Take a lead in planning collaboratively with colleagues in order to promote effective practice.

● Ensure the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum for all students.

● Be accountable for leading, managing and developing curriculum, assessment and teaching within the department.

● Effectively manage and deploy teaching/support staff, financial and physical resources within the department to support the designated curriculum portfolio.
