A unique opportunity in a unique school

Would you like to be part of a forward-thinking, supportive school community where your professional development is a priority?  St James' is an Ofsted-rated "Good" school where we are committed to the flourishing of all our staff and pupils.

The Mathematics department at St James' is welcoming, supportive and forward-thinking and under your leadership will continue to grow as one of the most successful departments in the school. We are proud of our achievements but we are always looking to improve -  a key priority for us is  improving our provision at A-level so that our post-16 results match our positive outcomes at KS4. Our expectations for pupils are exceptionally high, both in terms of their behaviour and their attainment. Most importantly, we want to foster a love for, and mastery of, Mathematics in our pupils that will enrich their lives in school and beyond.

This position is being offered on the Leadership payscale and would suit a colleague who is currently a Head of Department or an experienced second in charge who wishes to progress to senior leadership within the next three to five years.  As Head of Mathematics, you will be part of the extended leadership team, contributing to whole school strategy and policy.

St James' Catholic High School is a wonderful place to work for many reasons. The words staff most often use to describe us are "supportive" and "community". We are a diverse community of pupils, teachers and support staff who share a common vision inspired by the words of St John's Gospel - " I have come that they might have life and have it to the full".

We can offer you an excellent package including bespoke CPD, childcare vouchers and support from leaders who take seriously the importance of work-life balance. We value your development and will work with you to ensure that your talents are nurtured to the full,  welcoming applicants from all faiths and backgrounds.

We are at an exciting time in our development - having been established by the Dominican Sisters 80 years ago, St James' is expanding by two forms of entry to become an eight form entry school by September 2019. The building project to enhance our Sixth Form provision, as well as improving our current accommodation to include a new Hall, Learning Resource Centre and Masterclass area will also be completed by this September.

The leadership team are committed to the professional and personal development of our teachers, and we actively look for ways to make sure that work-life balance is a reality.

If you are an enthusiastic, creative, well-organised professional who wants to develop your craft in a school where human flourishing is at the heart of what we do, we would love to hear from you.   Visits to the school prior to application are warmly encouraged.  Please contact the Headteacher's PA, Sharon McGovern on 020 8 358 2800 to arrange a visit.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

Application deadline: Thursday 21 March 2019 at noon

Interviews will take place on Monday 25  March 2019

We will inform you immediately if you are shortlisted. Please note, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for interview. We reserve the right to interview applicants before the stated deadline.
