Job overview

Subject Leader for Music TMS/UPS + TLR3

Required for September 2017 or January 2018

Do you want the autonomy to make a real difference for students in their music learning and extra curricular provision at this popular and successful school, where staff professional development is at the heart of our work?  We are seeking to appoint a highly qualified, innovative and inspirational Subject Leader for Music, who is passionate about their subject and who is committed to raising aspirations, and securing sustained progress for all of our students. Music is taught to all students in KS3. At KS4 we offer BTEC Music, but the GCSE course is being phased in from September to replace it. Similarly at KS5, BTEC is being replaced with A Level Music.  You will be joining a forward-thinking CAPE (Creative Arts and PE) faculty, who are all dedicated to their work with our students, and to supporting each other through their collaborative work. Our recent annual production of High School Musical engaged large numbers of students and we will shortly be travelling to Italy for our annual Creative Arts tour. The post is suitable for an experienced teacher or equally it would be suitable for an NQT, who has ambition, drive and creative ideas and who wants to make a difference for our young people.  This is an exciting time to be joining Gosford Hill School as it enters the next phase of its journey under the leadership of its new Headteacher, a music graduate, who is passionate about the Creative and Performing Arts. Visits to the school, by arrangement, are welcome.

Gosford Hill School is situated in Kidlington, on the north western edge of Oxford near to the new Oxford Parkway Station (a 50 minute journey from London). We are also fortunate to be at the gateway to the rural Cotswolds.   If you are interested in the post, please complete a Gosford Hill School application form and include a letter (of no more than two sides of A4) outlining your reasons for applying and your suitability for the post. Application forms and further details are available on the school’s website or from Nicola Cooke, Headteacher’s PA. (tel. 01865 374971; email jobapplications@gosford-hill.oxon.sch.uk.  The closing date for receipt of applications is Sunday 2nd July  2017.

Please submit your completed application to jobapplications@gosford-hill.oxon.sch.uk  Gosford Hill School is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Due to this post having access to children and/or vulnerable adults, candidates will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service check. The possession of a criminal record will not necessarily prevent an applicant from obtaining this post, as all cases are judged individually according to the nature of the role and information provided.

Welcome to Gosford Hill School

It’s a pleasure to welcome you to Gosford Hill School. Our school prides itself on the emphasis that we place on the needs, aspirations and achievement of individual students with learning very much at the heart of our work. We want our students to develop as resilient and autonomous learners, keen to overcome challenges, and take risks, so that they gain the transferable skills needed to enable them to lead fulfilling lives as confident and articulate individuals in our society.

Every student has strengths and talents, and it is our job to find and unlock that potential in every student. Whether it’s sport, art, music, Duke of Edinburgh or World Challenge, we celebrate success and recognise that learning goes beyond the classroom. Students are often more likely to remember the wealth and diverse range of opportunities available to them beyond the classroom as they are faced with new and exciting challenges.

We work closely with parents, and it is our belief that where the school, individual student and their parents work closely together, students will succeed.

It’s a privilege to lead such a wonderful school and I do hope that you find the information on our website helpful. There is so much more to learn about our school though, so I would therefore urge you to come and visit us in order to find out and experience for yourself why students, parents, staff and our wider community are so proud of our school.

Mr Nigel J. Sellars
Headteacher

School Vision and Ethos
