Job overview

William Perkin Church of England High School, Greenford, Middlesex UB6 8PR is seeking to appoint a Subject Leader of Academic PE for September 2017.

We are looking for a Subject leader of Academic PE to join our outstanding school as we grow into our fifth year. The school offers outstanding opportunities for professional development and you will be joining an incredibly talented and supportive teaching team.

William Perkin Church of England High School opened in September 2013 with its first intake of Year 7 students and now has four year groups (7, 8, 9 and 10) totalling around 775 students. We have had an incredibly positive journey so far and are rated ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted (June 2015) and SIAMS (October 2016).

The William Perkin Sports department is recruiting a number of PE teachers as it prepares for its fifth year. The challenge is to build upon and further improve the outstanding outcomes at KS3 and KS4 achieved so far, and the key purpose of this post is to ensure outstanding outcomes in internal and public examinations.

Students have a 100 minute ‘Core Elective’ session each week where they have additional time to learn new skills and apply them in full game situations. This 100 minute lesson along with many ‘extended elective’ sessions after school has helped create an outstanding offer of sport at William Perkin. The curriculum and assessment frameworks are stored on our VLE system to ensure that all materials are accessible for students and staff. The curriculum is three tiered and within each tier we use differentiated outcomes for each lesson to ensure effective differentiation at classroom level.

The school has outstanding facilities including a full size floodlit 3G astroturf, 3 Netball court floodlit MUGA, 4 badminton court sports hall, along with grass pitches and a cricket square. The next phase of development is due shortly after the very successful opening of the 3G Astroturf and sports pavilion this year, in partnership with the FA and a range of football clubs including Arsenal, Brentford and QPR. Phase 2 is a State School Cricket Hub development in partnership with Middlesex CCC.

This represents an unusually interesting opportunity for a Subject Leader with relevant teaching experience to join a strong and successful team, in a new school, at a very exciting time in its development.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A good degree (preferably Sports Science) and Qualified Teacher Status
  • Ability to teach PE to A level
  • Ability to lead Cricket/Rugby
  • Played sport to a high level (desirable)
  • Ability to teach another subject (ebacc)
  • Knowledge of the requirements of the National Curriculum
  • An understanding of recent curriculum/learning developments
  • An understanding of the strategies required to motivate and enthuse all students across the ability range as part of a whole school approach to raising achievement
  • An understanding of the processes and techniques required to assess, record and report students’ learning effectively
  • Ability to be reflective and driven towards self-improvement
  • Energy and enthusiasm
  • A commitment to the ethos of the school

We offer:

  • Exceptional professional development and career progression
  • Positive working relationships at all levels
  • A supportive and lively Leadership Team
